epson 4880 inks won't set up?

just got a new epson 4880 blackmax and setting it up but it won't take the inks. everything is brand new out of the box. it says set ink cart.s so i do that and then it says please wait.......then after a few minutes set ink cart.s comes back up

anyone know anything about this?

well i think i narrowed it down to possibly one bad cart. (it was showing some signs of leakage) so sending that back and waiting for a new one and we will try again.
tech support said if one is bad none of them will work
