Fax Line

I finally got rid of mine but what do I do now for that rare fax I need to receive or send. I know there are online services from $7 to $10 a month but will hardly ever use it.

If I went that route I need one that I can keep a number and use it on business cards or at least publish in correspondence.

What about VOIP like Magic Jack, anyone have good luck with that? I still have the fax machine and could hook up on it.

Head bathroom cleaner.
We set up an alternate ring number on our main line. It costs us around $5 month. I then set the fax to pick up on only the alternate ring. Works great for us.

We set up an account with UnityFax. This works really great. It is $4.99 per month. The faxes arrive in an email address that you specify. I set up a rule that routes them to a fax folder. This way I always have a copy that I can reference. No more scrambling around for paper in a file folder. You can of course print them if needed. They give you a number, so your customers never know the difference. You just tell them my fax number is xxx-xxx-xxxx and a few minutes later you will get an email with a .PDF attachment.

Much cheaper and better than a phone line and fax machine.

It's not so much that we need to fax stuff out, but we have customers that insist on faxing stuff to us.

Magic Jack won't work with a traditional fax machine. Something to do with the fax signals over a digital line. I tried this first hand and found out after wasting $40.

We use RingCentral for everything now and have ZERO regrets.

As for fax, get a MyFax number (or something like it) for under $10 a month. How often do you need to get a quote request or a customer correspondence to make that pay for itself!

I nuked the fax line years ago and use the regular phone line now. The onyl time the fax operates is when some lame moron send a spam fax about once every 3 months. The fax is just there because I or my see no need to remove it.
Its an anachronism

I kept my fax line for four years because I had one customer who only used the fax and he spent enough to justify it. He just retired so the fax line went with him. I just hooked the fax machine into the regular phone line and set it to not to automatically pick up. If I need to recieve one they can call me to let me know, I'll answer it from the fax machine and hit the "RECEIVE" button, just like we used to do when we first got a fax 20 years ago. I really don't see it being an issue, other than that one customer I think I get a work related fax about once every two months.

I never had a fax line, just a phone which accepted faxes. It finally died about a year ago and I don't miss it.
I only ever got a fax from one client towards the end, everyone else send pdfs via email (some with usable files even) I got a lot of SPAM faxes though.

Maybe an online one is the way to go.
