This works Great for PDF's or AI's where you don't have the pic or the fonts.
Open Illy start a new page bigger that your document.
Place your document on the page but don't link it.
Then flatten it see screen shot for settings.

Just because you can do work arounds to extract the image from a PDF doesn't mean that you'll end up with the best version of the image. Get the linked file from the customer. What's embedded in the PDF will have been through PDF preflighting, downsampled and likely color space converted.

True, I did notice the image was RGB, I'll have to wait and see if the original design was CMYK.
