Foils and overprints

What is the thoughts on ZeroNine NexGen Ribbons & Frogskin? Is that the way to go, or is there someone else out there that has a better product? Duracoat seems to be the other brand, besides Gerber, that I am finding. Also, does frogskin work better then laminating or clear vinyl?

I have used Duracoat and Gerber, but mostly Gerber. I have so many jobs that were designed with the Gerber colors that it's just easier. Though I do use the Duracoat Process colors and the ones that are close to Gerber, like tom red and black.
I don't like to use the protective finish carts, I'm used to applying Frogjuice with a brush and it dries fast. I have also laminated with clear vinyl then cut.
I prefer not to "use up" the machine by applying the clear with the machine, that means the edge is running twice as much for every job that needs protection.

The ZeroNine NexGen foils are superior to the original legacy ones for chemical resistance. Never tried the Frog Skin foil due to hearing problems with it peeling off the prints in the past but the Gerber Abrasion Guard works well.

I tried Duracoat but hated the flimsy cartridges. Gerber foils are the best ones out there in my opinion.

Like Bill I mostly frog juiced my prints for extended durability.

I use the frog foil on small decals, but any print over say 3' I will spray the juice on...

I've been using zero-nine ribbons for 4 years or so, no problems fading or anything...

we use the zeronine just because they are cheaper but haven't noticed if they are better or worse then gerber or duracoat
and we tried the frog skin and it didn't give us the protection we needed so we just laminate when needed but i will tell you from tests that i have done just normal outdoor abuse the decals/labels hold up pretty well with out lamination i would say a good two years with very little if any fading or signs of ware

I use both GSP and Apex, which is Advantage's private label. I use Apex UV Guard on just about all my long term outdoor decals and the longevity seems very good. At least nothing's ever come back because of fading.
The only problem I've had is Apex's Flood coat white doesn't transfer well on the Lexan substrates. For those I got back to Gerber's Flood Coat White.
I'm about 70% Gerber and 30% Apex.

I'm with signage and Bill Modzel. We do all our everyday stuff with Advantage Apex foils. The UV/Abrasion Guard works very well. If you don't like the Duracoat cartridges (and we do not), it's easy to revamp your Gerber cartridges for refilling with Apex/Duracoat refills ... which saves a few bucks and reduces your trash.
