Confounding? Have you found some word in particular to be confounding or are you at sea with the language in general?
For future reference; I have little need of a thesaurus. While it might not be the 'vernacular' of your village, it is simple English that even a mildly retarded elementary school child can comprehend. Finally, language might be spoken or written but not 'imparted', a rather poor word regardless of context. You might contemplate that the original anecdote of 'fix it or break it off', while a true story, was related more tongue in cheek than as serious advice. But then I forgot what literal and serious specimens sail these waters. And what idiots the most of them are.
