Something I had not considered - maybe there is an anti-graffiti treatment on that glass.
If it is a film it seems it would be too thick not to notice and his letters would be sliding off, but if it is a coating maybe not.

I've seen this once or twice before. The culprit was a coating or glass wax of sorts that was applied to the glass by the window washing service in order to aid in easier and faster cleaning of the glass. For this very reason, we always test the glass surface with a scrap of vinyl and prep the glass accordingly ourselves before install.
