not sure i understand why with a taped hem you would roll them ink out? we use powertape and roll them ink in are we supposed to put the powertape on the ink side of the banner?

print side out, when using banner tape to hem the banner this works much better. as far as damaging the banner, we use this plastic tube like product from ULINE. cut off the length you need, put banner in, tuck each side into the end of the banner, and you have a nicely packaged banner.

We pack our banners pretty darn thoroughly for shipment. Roll them ON a 3in cardboard core...Print side in....paper or plastic dropcloth on the image area to protect them. Wrap them in scrap 13oz vinyl and then use the thick plastic tubing that darlak uses as a final touch. We ship a lot of banners around....clients sometimes complain about unwrapping for 10 minutes...lol... but when it comes down to it, the banners are NEVER damaged.

We learned a lesson on these banners.

Had a customer bring back a banner because the ink was worn on it. Turns out the ink was sticking to the hem that was folded in.

Now we keep the banners rolled out overnight or at least a few hours before we roll them print side in.

However we think the customer left the Banner in her car and the heat caused the ink to stick to the print side of the vinyl on the hem.

Granted it was a black background banner and heavy on ink and we don't remember if we let it sit or not, but our lesson is to let the customer know not to let the banner sit in the sun or hot car while rolled up.

Been there...done that. Our solvent prints have to really degas first before we roll them up. The hems when heated on our welder have a tendency to soften up the ink again and can really stick when put on top of each other soon after. We learned to slip sheet them when doing large qtys just using backer from lam. Saves us the PITA and reprint time.
