Aloha,
This is my official "first" reply to anything. I'm usually sitting back and enjoy peoples comments but one thing I've come to realize over the years in this business is not how much you know or experience you have, it really is the willingness to learn and understand how technology can help you achieve better results. My comment to my fellow workers is always, "it doesn't matter how good you were in the past, what matters most is what you do today!"

Mr. Parkes I think you are on the wrong site. This is Signs101 I think you are looking for the 400 level Sign forum.

And as far as I know I am in the game for the money, that's all it matters to me. You may be Picasso and i would still don't care. All I care is about my family and my little one the most. Go preach at your church not here.

I'm only 23 and I have been doing signs full time since I was 18. i started though when I was 14 and working for my dads sign business and I know most of those but there are a couple I don't know, but you telling me I'm not truly in the sign business because of that makes you sound nuts. I do pretty darn well, especially for a 23 yr old and to hear someone say that well it just gets me mad. I love to do signs and spend all the extra time I can in the shop because I enjoy it that much so to tell me or anyone else who does the same they arn't truly a sign person well, YOUR NUTS lol.

hmm, entertaining.

I for one am clearly not a sign guy in our eyes Greg, just someone who prints stuff on a big printer thingy onto to a sticky material (what is that stuff called again?)

I'm OK with that.

There are many parts to the sign biz

Are you sure about that?

Given the bile directed at Gregg I get the impression that a Gold medal is handed out with every Valuejet..... this medallion has "Expert sign maker" stamped on it.

Gregg clearly thinks along the same lines as I do... I might not do all aspects of sign production BUT I think it's my business to take the time to understand and gather the knowledge of as many things sign related as possible.

If customers ask difficult questions what's the best approach... wallow in your ignorance and stand there like the slack jawed village idiot... OR do your homework and present your customer with the knowledge they expect you to have in the first place. If I walk into Gregg's shop down under and start asking questions I'll be given a smooth, effortless explanation of the facts no matter how hard or specialised the question... what's going to happen if I walk into your shop? Are you going to impress me with your printer and then do card tricks to distract me from the fact that your expertise is a mile wide and an inch deep?

If you have owned a printer for two years and then start kicking an experienced 30 year veteran then the rest of us old school chaps who aren't the slightest bit impressed with digital printing are going to close ranks. If you really are as experienced as our man quit hiding behind your printer and prove your case.

(PS. I haven't heard anyone say Chin, Chin for years... it made me laugh so much I've dropped me cup of tea)
