HP R1000 Glass Printing

Behrmon

Pr. Bear-Mon
Hey all,

Anyone have experience printing glass on an R1000 here?

Here's what I've got:

Printing 18" Sq 1/4 glass backed with White running 31P 100% Den.

Prints are great, detail is good and color is vibrant.

Near the end of the print we get some what appears to be ink coalescence about a 1/4' off the bottom edge then it clears out.

The panel has not exited the heat chamber before this happens.

I've adjusted heat as a test with no affect.

Sorry for the poor pics:

I print glass regularly..no real issues. I use onyx to flood under/over..I have a 24 and 31 pass profile that works with no problem. I actually cloned my foam board profile to make it.

I would say that's an adhesion problem.

how well does the ink stick to the glass?
can you put a strip of packaging tape on the ink side then try rip it off with out the ink coming off the glass?

did you ever solve this? I'm curious what the issue was.

Looks like either the glass had defects or the optimizer needs increased

What profile are you using, generic HP glass ?

I would not blame the glass for this issue.
it's an adhesion issue. guaranteed. The white ink is literally penetrating though the CMYK ink.
We print on glass more than most people do, and we've seen this issue before.

I'll tell you what the issue is and why it happens. The lower layers of ink haven't cured properly before more ink was placed on top of it.
Now you ask, why does it only happen on the edge? Good question. It happens most of the time on the edge because the vacuum keeps sucking the hot air past the edge hence not drying it properly.
You can counter this by:
  • Lower the vacuum. It's glass and it doesn't need much, 100 or even less should be fine.
  • Increase the drying temperature and airflow (not too much or you can have other issues).
  • Lower optimizer (again not too much or you will have IQ issues).
  • Lower max ink limit
  • You can also play a little with the curing but most of the difference comes during laying down the ink.

Hello

I got the same(?) problem and need some help..

Can someone please share the mediasettings (from the R1000-Library)?
I'll attach some photos - hope you can figure out what the problem is.. because I can not.
I tried different mediasettings and sometimes the "red arrows" are not red; I guess it just prints too fast so its mixed with white and/or black (in sandwich-mode)

The "effect" appears at the end of the print - which is not the end of the glass plate (the print ends in the middle of the plate)

If it helps I can share some photos of my settings..?

Thank you!
:)

Greetings from germany
- Dennis
