I have a feeling I'm being scammed on ebay

I put an old HP5000 designjet up for sale on ebay, local pickup only.
I'm in Sydney Australia btw.
Within 2 hours it was snapped up for the buy it now price by somebody in Poland. No feedback at all on the buyer.
I asked him ok so when will you be picking it up, I'm in Sydney.
He replied send me yr Paypal email address and I'll get my shipping agent to get in touch.
I'm wondering why they'd go to so much trouble to scam me out of an obsolete clunker like a HP5000.
Something smells though.

Why is he asking you for your paypal when he should be able to pay you thru ebay right. You suppose to have the paypal address registered with ebay as far as i know.

Formally file a complaint against him through e-Bay, and relist your item. (this is why e-Bay has their rating system)
You can designate your ad for local only, or international sales too.

Other alittle lost time...I wouldn't worry too much about it.
(unless you've sent him a bunch of your personal information....then you may be screwed!!!!) :banghead:

Its an absolute scam. Typically its done with automobiles, but lately its with machine shop CNC's, lathes, mills, all sorts of equipment, and always from Europe.
Under no circumstances should you allow him to give you a certified bank draft or cashier's check unless its redeemable in a local bank of yours.
There's literally no way to track the validity of a seemingly valid cashier's check unless you cash it and have the bucks/cash in your hand.
Usual MO is for them to send you such an apparently valid "draft" with the name and certification of an issuing bank, arrange for pickup by an agent before the supposed cashiers check completely clears. Once your machine is gone, its gone... paid for or not.

He wants to pay with Paypal.
I know from experience it's very easy for a buyer to get a refund by filing a complaint with Paypal. So I assume they will pick the machine up then claim it's not as described and get their money back.

Haha here's the kicker - I just need to send them $900 for the shipping, you know, to help a brother out.

I was just about to make the payments when i had this little problem with the picking up of the item , I am currently on sea and i am buying the item for my Dad as i explained earlier on and i tried to book pick up with my pick up agent, but they asked me to pay first before they can make the booking, and they only accept western union money transfer for payments and they dont accept paypal or bank transfer and I tried to send the money online but i couldnt and I am on sea and there is no way i can find a western union agent to make the transfer to my pick up agent, so i wanted to ask if it was ok for me to include my pick up agent's fees in the payments I am about to send through paypal, my pick up agent charged $900.00 plus insurance and all 'o that, pls can i include their money in the payments I want to send then after i have made the payments you will help me forward the $900.00 to my pick up agent through western union money transfer, this I would have done myself and not bother you but the for the fact that I am currently on sea, so after I have made the payments you will help me send $900.00 to my pick up agent through western union money transfer, I just wanted to seek your consent before going ahead with the payments,I will more than appreciate if you mail me back, and I will be making the payments shortly.

PS:the shipping company's Head quarters and any pick up fees to be paid is sent to their head quarters by the payee, so the moneyfor pick up will be sent to their head quarters through western union money transfer(this can be done from any post office) or you can do it online at www.westernunion.com

It's getting so bad these days, you almost have to conduct all business face to face, with cash in hand, and a marker to make sure the cash isn't counterfeit!

What do you expect from teams of Nigerians in internet cafes...

they can only take your money if you give it to them.

How come he tells you to go to westernunion.com but says he's at sea and go do it himself. If he emailed you from sea, he's got internet, so tell him to go to westernunion.com himself. He might need you to explain how the internet works to him :)

oh for the days when my email was just filled with Viagra ads. Even with spam filters I'm getting a couple a day. Some are pretty cunning. I have to read through looking for the trap. I get the feeling that one of these days I won't be able to tell the difference between my real customers and these sonofas.

I also worry that my mom gets the same kind of crap that is confusing even hardened sign guys.

We need a new sheriff on the internet.

You must report the incident or it may reflect negatively on your eBay account !

Ditto!

Scam Or legit who knows or cares! The buyer is not performing according to your terms of sale.

Report it to eBay so you don't have to pay the fees and keep your account clean.

plus they may possibly let you relist your item with no fee
