I have never heard of anything so stupid in my life. Are you ready for thisI love my 2005 Toyota matrix and today I pushed the button on my odometer to just check when I need to book my next oil change and you could imagine my thrill to see it read 299999 so I waited and drove around to watch it flip to 300000 after driving all the way to Burlington and back it still read 299999 so I called my Toyota dealership and I was told HOLD ON TO YOUR HATS that it won't go by the 299999 and I said so what am I suppose to do to track my mileage and she said " use your trip meters" I said are you serious, how am I suppose to resell a vehicle if I can't prove the mileage again she replied you can keep track on your trip meters. I said I didn't know how long I have been driving with it at 299999 so what do i do.
this is where it gets good
I can pay to have a new one put in $ 584.00, or they could try and submit a claim to Toyota and if head office accepts the claim it will still cost me $188.00 . So I said "you design an inferior odometer, you don't tell us that this could happen not even at my last oil change a month ago and you want me to pay. She replied " they didn't know when they sold the vehicle to me that this would happen"
Don't you think that when they found out ( as I can't be the first to get to 300000) they would have fixed the problem or at least told us it will happen

Down here we have laws about tampering with odometers and their ability to accurately read the correct mileage. I'd think you could be part of a class action lawsuit against Toyota.

so i guess they build cars not expecting them to last that long? i have a Hyundai Tuscon as my work car and it's at 254,998 right now so in another year or so i wonder what mine will do. maybe i should give them a call

Since the mid 70s plus minus cars are made to make money for mfg. & dealers duh

& Mechanics are raking in the cash cause you have no idea what is wrong with ya car even if ya do it is nearly impossible to work on them & find what is wrong to fix, what use to be a simple process is now highly complex.

Yup ya can get more miles & better mpg on it all, but repair costs are through the roof, forcing you to consider a new model.

Kinda what Obama did with cash for clunkers destroy the old for buying new. Ya know the rest of the story.

Is there much difference in the resale value of a vehicle with 300,000 miles and one with 350,000? I'd be doing the happy dance just because it had lasted 300,000 miles!

but what happens when I go to get my sticker (here in canada) to put on my plate and I need to record by odometer reading, am I not technically giving a false recording as I don't know my true mileage. Not even sure why they ask for it in the first place.
I just don't think this is a consumers problem and should not be expected to pay

Yes it would be Kilometers
this car is a beast and I have only had to replace the brakes twice in 9 years I have had it and had a major oil leak fixed. I have it serviced with the oil changes/air filters every 8000 klm ( service manual recommendations) and I am hoping to get another 4 or 5 years out of it, since I am not driving the distances that I was when I first got it.
I just wonder how many people are purchasing used Toyota's with false mileage

When my speedometer failed to register MPH. GM sent a picture of the odometer to the company sending the replacement cluster, so they could program the odometer with the correct milage.

I drove my 82 Toyota pick-up over 450,000 miles without any major engine work ever.
Do not ever try to sell a vehicle with that many miles no matter how pristine it may be,
people are so damn suspicous and always want something for nothing.

If you want to track your mileage there's an app for that...

You guys are missing that its kilometers... which is 186,500miles. Typically a lot Asian Vehicles store the Odometer reading on the ECU and not the Cluster Like Domestic vehicles, the clusters may be plug and play.
