I Will Not Compromise!

I lost a job due to the fact that I didn't have the correct vinyl in stock for the job. It was a special order and would've taken about a week to get in.

But they wanted it that day!!! So I lost the job.

I was shown pictures and told exactly what the customer wanted...No Problem if I had the material, lots of complex curves, and right angles.

They took it to the competition and it didn't look anything like the pictures or what they had described, and they only did about 75% of what I was told had to be done.

All done with calendered vinyl, the doorjam cuts looked like a 3rd grader did it with a butter knife. (That is a serious observation) There were even corners that weren't even sealed down.

All I can say is, I will not compromise the quality of the work I do and slam something together just to make a buck.

Maybe they'll give me a call to fix it next year.

What are you a "vinyl shop"? We print 99% of our vinyl stuff so color is not an issue. Not really any color we can't match, well CHROME!! and I don't sell that crap! BTW, I have printed stuff on one of my trucks 8 years old and looks like new, so it will last as long as "pure" vinyl!

if you lose a job because you did not have the specialty color in stock screw them. If you lose a job because you cant crank out their wishes in one day screw them. 22 years in this buisness I have learned to gladly tell people "naw, that ain't gonna happen. you need to go somewhere else."

remember, your not losing a customer, you just avaoided a pain in the ass

I see almost all of my "competition" make compromises ... hell, they have risen prices just because I have and still don't offer the same thing. I say stick to your guns, they will come back later, if not ... it's not against your reputation if the job sucks. Nothing worse for a sign shop than "god, that looks crappy, where did you get it done?" followed by your shops name.

I'm still looking for the shop in town that is offering "chrome" vinyl that is that cheap craft stuff you put onto notebooks and stuff. Goes through the car wash one time and starts to crack, fracture and peel ... really over replacing that dingbats work. That guys tires might lose the valve stems if I can find his box truck he's based out of.

Yep...I was also notified yesterday that I had lost a job to a competitor who uses inferior quality materials. Time has a way of ratting those guys out. Sit back, sip some lemonade and wait for them to come back.

I was at the hospital w/ my wife having a baby this week, and a customer called me night before (this was a scheduled delivery) we had to go in at 5AM and was all over me in a voicemail about calling her back asap about a project. I was thinking, she can wait till after the baby gets here in 12 hours. She called again that morning leaving me a voicemail, and mildly criticizing me for not being in the office yet that day.

I decided I'd take the high road and call her back even though it wasn't good timing. She wanted it THAT DAY. I basically said, no way is that happening, and even if I was in the shop, still wouldn't happen.

Hopefully she called the lowballer in town. I love it when he gets my last minute orders and does them for free.

IF we spent our time worrying about our business instead of the "other" ones. We will be much happier for it and a lot more busy than they ever will be.
