If you forget the premask

Just use up a $5 roll of masking tape! Beats driving back to the shop.

As long as the green tape has less adhesive strength than the vinyl copy he should be OK. The tiny bubble lines from the tape may cause a problem on the application.

There's another way to forget application tape. We did some prints for another shop that were print/cut to go on an electric sign face. We used clear plastic application tape for easier registration. Their installer went out and put them up in the field. A couple of months later I got a phone call that the laminate was peeling off our print and they wanted us to redo it. After a little discussion with the other owner on the phone I determined that their installer hadn't taken the application tape off when he was done. I didn't have to reprint...

I have gotten that call. Also the "You sold me a reused sign panel", when their installer didn't remove the printed factory protective film from the back side.

Similar story, we hired a union guy to install a 10ft x 10ft Entertainment calendar in a casino. This is back before PSA lam prices came down and thermal was much more popular. Long story short, he peeled the lam off of the prints because he thought it was a protective liner. Only him and I knew about it...

I just carry a 4-6" wide roll of mask in my tool box along with painters tape (used on mask to lineup on the window or whatever). I've used it twice in about a years time now but it takes up very little weight and I tuck a little swifter pad, to wipe dust and crap away, inside of the tube.
