OK so I have Signlab... I set up everything in SL and sub out prints. I take my SL file, export to a pdf (for reference) and then to an ai for production.

3x times now my subs open files and they are the wrong size in illy... no matter whether the pdf or ai WRONG! He opens in Corel and voila- the right size..

I start sending files from Corel exported as ai and pdf then opening them illy to check them and all wrong! ( we both are using the same version) How is it that the industry "standard" is not importing correctly? I start trying other files and all the same thing...
Is it SL? Corel, Illy? Am I doing something wrong? Been doing this for years and never had an issue before... anyone else ever have this happen?

I dont want to deal with making them resize everything in illy ( last job actually was wrong size and now I know why) Can start using corel with them but I have other subs for other things and now I am worried everytime I send an "adobe" file it could be sized incorrectly

Thanks for any advise

Not sure if this is your problem but it could be.
What kind of data are you sending in the ai/pdf's?
Is it all vector, raster or a combo of both?
Adobe updated their software to meet a newer standard(theirs) when reading raster info that has been screwing up output sizes when opened in software outside of Adobe's.
All the flattened jpgs I get from one designer open up too large in both flexi's rip & Corel.
He builds them in CS5.5 PS & AI (I think).
I have to make sure he sends the intended output size with all his layouts.
It may be screwing up your files going the other way.

I'm making a wild guess here. Without actually standing over your shoulder while you work, it's all I can do.
Post CS3 Illustrator has options for calculating the size of objects based on the width of strokes. You can set up CS4, 5 & 5.5 to calculate object sizes by the dimensions of the path versus total dimension of path plus stroke. Check your transperancy/flattener presets (try setting these to hi - the default is medium) and your preferences.

If the artwork is rather large it might be hitting some kind of internal limit and automatically scaling down to fit. I have noticed this sometimes with Gerber.
It may be worth doing a test with something small like 12" x 12".
If that works then you might have to work in scale, keep it simple like 10%.

PDF will export only at the size of the art board.
If the pdf is is 11x11 while the art board is only 8x11,, the pdf will be 8x11.

Not sure about an illy AI but if illy follows the PDF then the size will be determined by the art board.

Ditto what Techman said. A pdf will use the artboard as it's final size regardless of the actual graphic elements. An eps will use the actual art as it's final size and ignore the artboard.

thanks everyone!!!- GAC was very helpful in checking out the files! seems it is the CS1 illy page size max is was throwing it off..eps is working. and love the idea of naming the file with the size- I wish I had thought of that!
