Thanks for the reply. In what way were they inferior? Are you able to substantiate your longevity claim?

The cheap generic version have weak locking tabs on the tiles and will move about if not adhered to the floor in a good fashion.
Also the side panels that affix loosen as well.
When this happens tiles tend to warp and cause complications.
The tiles should also be adhered to the floor as any movement from tires being turned on them will cause tile loosening as well.
Also I would suggest a good quality mat in case of chemical or liquid spillage to prevent the mat from corroding.

If Costco sold a Summa or Graphtec, or some other reputable brand, I would buy it from them. Not everything Costco sells is junk, and their return policy is unbeatable.

Costco can be a great place for certain items and yes their store return policy is very good.
I had a membership and used them frequently, however I found I was spending more than I really needed to on certain items such as grocery products, saying that most larger stores offer the same products at the same price if not cheaper so I could not justify the membership fee any more
The video is a bit spooky but then it is nearing Halloween so I suppose its rather apt.
Good luck in your quest for the tiles, Maybe it might be a good idea to contact a local specialist and ask them the comparisons.

One great thing I gleaned from that video was that the 1/4" thickness is the one to get for my application - not the 1/8"

I considered similar locking tiles but they look like they would be impossible to sweep with the raised circular and diamond treads.

we did the utilty/laundry room with the soft multicolored ones. been in there almost 4-5 years............made a big diff on a concrete floor non heated room. i was thinkin bout them for my 24x30 shop, but i did a 100% solids, 2 part epoxy paint, and am still lovin it. get everything up off the floor one a year, open all the doors,take the pressure washer on low and water wash it with no soap of chemicals........turn on a couple fans, and blow air thru it..........and its like new again.

Just some additional info I've come across, in case someone else is contemplating this project:


Similar to the Rubber-Cal product that fmg mentioned earlier, there's also G-Floor which looks very good, but the G-Floor is quite thin (.075 Commercial grade, and .085 for the Industrial grade).


I also found a good article on garage/workshop flooring here. Lots of good points made.


The option that I may go with is an 18" x 18" interlocking tile made by "Multy Industries" here in Canada (sold at Canadian Tire). They are a full 1/4" thick, and the least expensive option per sq. ft. Unfortunately these are only available in a very dark gray (almost black). They don't look like the medium gray as in the photos. A dark colored floor will always make a space appear smaller, while a lighter color will make it appear more spacious. I wish they made a lighter gray, but they don't.

I used this rubber diamond plate style flooring designed for trailer floors. I bought some rems from a place that did custom trailers for my bathroom...went with the diamond plate walls.
