In the market for a Laminator

I'm looking for a laminator that is not going to break the bank ( if that's possible ). My printer is 54". The seal Base is a great looking machine but can I find one that won't be so expensive and still give good results. What are your opinions &/or suggestions. Thanks all.

I'm currently in the same situation. For now the BS gets me by, but it would be nice to have a machine always set up and ready to go. Right now, I just can't justify buying a top end machine, so I've been looking at used Royal Sovereigns which seem to run anywhere form $2500-$4000 depending on age and condition. Also, the new version of the Daige Solo looks like a decent machine when you consider the price and the fact I am not a high volume shop. I know there are a lot of Daige haters out there, but the new machine looks like it has fixed a lot of the shortcomings and issues the older machines had. For $2000 I get a 55" machine, stand, foot pedal and free shipping. The videos look pretty straight forward. I'm definitely tempted...

i have used a daige and now have a signwarehouse enduralam (dingtec).. you can master the daige, but it has a greater learning curve than a laminator with the tension bars you have to zig-zag the lam thru before it gets to the main roller.
the tension bars make it harder for you to get the lam skewed and make getting it tight easier.
i would try to find a used laminator with the bars before i got a daige. just my experience.

Hey Luggnut, How do you like the Enduralam? We have a Ledco, but we are looking to possibly add a second laminator to the shop.

Since Seal came out with the Base62 there are a lot of used Base54's floating around for decent pricing.

i have never used a high dollar laminator so keep that in mind with my opinion...

but i have used a daige and another dingtec before the enduralam and for me (a smaller shop) i can't see any reason i would need anything else. like the other 2 there is a little learning curve but once you got it it works fine... i have laminated 1000s of feet thru this thing and only screwed up a few (user error). for the money its pretty decent IMHO.

I have a Daige quickmount 4. Unfortunately the fixed features didn't come until AFTER I decided to buy a Royal Sovereign as well. Now I use my Daige for mounting large prints to substrate. I'm sure it's a much better machine now with ALL those MANY fixes. Especially for the price. I did make do with the quickmount4 for awhile...it cost me sometimes...especially after replacing the bottom roller.
Hope it works for you. The bells and whistles of the more expensive laminators are WELL WORTH the price if you ask me and I'm sure i'm not alone on that.

The Enduralam IS a SEAL that has been reverse engineered in China and distributed here through the likes of Sign Warehouse. Here is a link to some Chinese suppliers.
The enduralam is there without the printed logo on it.

If you can sell enough of them, you can have your own logo printed on it and sell it too.

I've got a Dingtec 60" cold laminator that has worked really well for us in the 4+ yrs we've used it. Would be nice to have some more automated features, but it works fine and is simple to use. It's quite sturdy and heavy, probably weighs 400# or better.

FYI, it's for sale too...looking to get $1100 for it.

I've used lots of high end laminators in the past while working for other companies. I freaked out when it came time to buy for my own company because I didn't want to spend all that money on a Guchi machine. Someone recommended the Royal Sovereign. I tried it out at the dealers and was pleasantly surprised - especially for the price. It does everything I need it to do and it does a great job. Make sure you know what features you are looking for in a laminator and make sure they suit your business. You can always go try a demo at the dealers.

Thanks everybody for your great info. I appreciate you taking the time to get me pointed in the right direction. I think I'll start by visiting some local dealers.

I would be glad to help you out if I have something that would fit your purposes. I have now got on staff a Laminator specialist, Harold Toiviainen who has been selling laminators for years. He was the large format specialist for GBC for quite some time. If you want somebody who knows every application I can put you in touch with Harold and he can go through the pluses and minuses of pretty much every machine out there. We can usually get just about every one of them both used and new as well. Laminators seem to be one of the largest parts of my business, thus the reason for Harold.
