inhaling vinyl adhesive....

I've been cutting and weeding 3M680CR all day. Now that i got my sense of smell back... this is starting to make me nauseous, the reflective that is. It's smells very strong. Anyone else ever experience something like this?

I don't use alot of 3M, but my wife can tell when I do. She can smell it on me when I get home.

I've just been cutting and weeding it since 9am....i'll have to ask Tony when i get home if i smell like a sign.
all i can say is wow! i used the other 3M reflective in 5100 and oracal before... but i don't remember any vinyl smelling this strong. Maybe a few squirts of rapid tac on me to smell good before i leave:wink:

I have a big bottle of germ-x i've been using so hopefully it's not the flu. I think its just this vinyl....i feel like gagging

I prefer a nice brisk corogloss ink with about 11% fast thinner. Puts a nice halo around the shoplights for you after a few hours on the press!

Just be glad you CAN smell it now.
I'm sure it's not as bad for you as cigarettes.
For the record, I have never smoked, and can still smell vinyl
(I like the kind that smalls like new baby dolls)
but I haven't been able to smell paint for about 10 years even when others whine about the stench.
Love the smell of Rapid Tac.

You know of course that in 20 years they will find it causes cancer.

There will be TV shows with guys in hazmat suits taking down signage.

Funny everyone loves the smell of rapid tac...I bet it's the worst!

We have a pretzel factory about two blocks away and smelling that is like heaven. Also the bar across the street and even the a$$wipe next door..... they're always cooking on the flat tops and those smells are better than the vinyl and other chemicals all day. We're surrounded by great odors and smells.

:thread Hey Slappy, I just found out yesterday Jeremy has been quitting smoking since the first of the year. That's a good one, cause he told me he quit about four or five years ago. Also, Candace is quitting and she smokes like 2-1/2 packs a day. She's a wreck, but doesn't know it.​

RapidTac smell reminds me some liquorous alcool like Bailey.. I really like it. As for 3M smell, I like the smell of their cast films, to me it's somewhere nearby apple juice smell. I think all reflectives have a different adhesive formula vs. other cast and calendred films... anyway it's smells a lot more when weeding. Just stepping inside a signshop is enough for me to determine if they use 3M 'cause it has a distinctive odor.

What your smelling is the patented puppyturddicloromethaleyne which is very expensive and used as an odor enhancer. Artbot can correct me if I'm wrong.

8518 on the laminator smells even better.
I'm a sick sadistic digital sign dude I guess......

It all smells better than our fleet of solvent printers used to!!

I think its vanilla, at least I think it smells of it a little with other scents.

If you want to sell your car throw a fresh roll of 3M 220 in the back seat for a few days...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm


Rapid remover smells OK at the start, but 4 hours later the stuff just hangs in the air constantly making me sick...

i haven't cracked up this hard for a while! I have tears in my eyes! Love the responses!

I was out all day today applying all the reflective i cut the other day, funny thing, i didn't even smell it today! ..... too bad i'll be cutting more tomorrow of it, not looking forward to the smell again. I may bring a candle with me.

jill... yeah, i thought about that too... definitely better then the cigs i was breathing in.

Gino, i actually went all day yesterday and today without even a thought of a cigarette. (till i went to do laundry tonight) but 1 urge in 2 whole days felt shocking and amazing! Tell them good luck! Signboy freaking quit by reading a book!
I downloaded some of it after Kevin told me and will email you later and you can give it to them. WatsonsSigns's also swears by it.... i have to start reading it again. Called Kevin the other day and he's like "your suppose to be smoking while you read it"" and I'm like, well, I'm not going to start again just to not start again.. lol :supersmilie:
