Is all this social networking jazz really worth it?

Just a thought today....

I was victim of thinking having a facebook, twitter and linkedin was going to help my business if i stayed active on it and really, I don't think it does a thing. Since not having these, I have more time to do things that generate me sales instead of hopeful sales.

I have worked on my wordpress based site with SEO software and that has been the biggest pay off as far as staying active online IMO. I get potential leads weekly from it and have had a handful of jobs from people in the past month off my site alone.

Maybe i am not doing these social networking things correctly but i just think some spend too much time when it doesn't really do anything. Maybe it depends on the type of business your in. I know when i did have a business facebook for example i got all these tire kicking kids wanting stupid stickers for their cars for $5 each.

Thoughts?

Depends on how you market yourself. Most of my social media stuff is marketed towards skatepark and motocross guys/girls between the ages of 16-30. They EAT IT UP. Always love to see new stuff, quick to jump into contests, and they keep it pretty active.

Now lets say what you offer is more of a commodity, or a necessity, and not really "exciting", then you'll get zilch off of there. It's a game, that doesn't work for everyone, but those who know which buttons to push always get a high score ;)

It really depends. Mine has been worth it. It does have it's place. You have your tire kickers on there too, that's for sure.

Well worth it if its done right.
My partner spends alot of time doing it and it pays back.
Is a bit time consuming but worth the time .

I never paid much attention to the face book, twitter stuff, etc, but the other day I googled my shop name. Saw where my wife has been active on Face Book. After talking to her and doing some checking, I found out some of the companies we now do vehicle graphics for have shown our work on their FB page. Also, FB is the reason we got another company to come aboard.

So I think in some ways it helps, but you can get caught up in spending too much time on these sites.

never expected Facebook to cause my doors to be knocked down by customers but i have gotten a job or two from posting my work. i don't have it as a business account just my personal page. i would have thought the linked in would have stirred up some business but nothing. i figured linked in was more of a business oriented type of social network so you would stand a better chance but in the same respect i have not looked on there for any business that i needed. truthfully i have been too busy to really dig into that but if i needed to find more work i think i could get a little more involved and drum up some business from there.

We post the big jobs we do daily on there, just to keep people who have used us in the past the type of work we're still doing... Every email i send out has our facebook link on it... you'll be surprised how many people will end up following you... worth it.

www.facebook.com/cosigns you can check mine to see what i'm talking about.

I have picked up work from my FB account as well. The others, no. I tweet rarely, same as linked in - they don't generate leads, but FB does (for me).
