Laminating Foil?

Have looked around on the forum and haven't seen any topics on the pro's/con's of laminating foil decals.

Obviously you almost always want to laminate anything that is printed with ink. But what about foil? Surely it can't hurt, but does it matter?

We laminate rarely but we overprint with clear UV/Abrasion Guard foil on anything that's expected to hold up outdoors almost always.

So difference between laminate and UV foil is longevity and cost? Seems like laminate would cost more and last longer, but the UV foil is a really sweet alternative.

No question the laminate protects better, but the overprint works decently. We haven't seen a faded print since we started using it 6 or 7 years ago. The main thing I dislike about using laminate is the change in the Edge workflow. Using the foil is no different than just having an extra color in the job.
