Learn CPR... NOW! It's that important...

I'm going to start by saying she's doing good now...

Yesterday my 2 year old granddaughter drowned in the pool. Blue, not breathing... my other (9 year old) granddaughter found her and pulled her out from the bottom and her sister ran with her to the adults. The pool is enclosed and somehow the baby had gotten in there.

My daughter tried to give her CPR but she was hysterical - it was her baby. My son-in-law gave the baby CPR but was scared of hurting her. One of our "adopted" kids knew CPR too and verbally gave Mark instructions and encouraged him on what to do. They got her breathing before the ambulance got there.

Knowing CPR saved her life. Her mother knew it too... but in a highly traumatizing time like it being her baby... she couldn't do it. So even if you don't have kids... learn CPR. If you have kids... learn CPR. I can't repeat it enough. Go find a class and learn CPR now. Make sure every adult and older child in your house learns CPR. It saved my grandbaby's life...

Like I said - she's doing very well and should be released today. She told her mommy what happened - she remembers falling in the pool (which is a very good sign)... then she told her mommy that after she fell, the white ghost picked her up and carried her. I'm crying even typing this. Our family is truly blessed.

I'm so thankful that she's ok. I have a 2 year old and can't imagine what that must have been like for all of you.

I don't know CPR, other that what I learned in high school many years ago but I'll definitely try to learn.

Thanks for sharing.

I read your post and immediately went to the Red Cross website to find info on taking a class. I have a 3 yr old and would feel better knowing what to do if the need ever arose. Although I couldn't find anything about any free classes, I did sign up to donate blood next week. I will ask them then about CPR classes.

I'm so glad everything is ok! Thanks for posting.

WHAT A STORY! Thank God she's OK. I can just imagin how frantic it must
have been. You are so so lucky to get her back!!!

I drowned when I was a kid. Stepped over a drop off at the beach. I have
no idea how long I was out. Some one on the beach just happend to know
CPR. This was back in the 50s and not many people knew it then. I can
remember water gushing from my lungs as I took my first breath.

Just phoned my local hospital and left a message with the CPR sign up coordinator.

I'll be taking the next available class.

Thanks for sharing. Glad it had such a happy ending.

I'm so glad to hear everything turned out. CPR should be required certification to live in Florida! I guess Grandbaby didn't get the memo that Grandma is under enough stress... there will be no more of that!!!!

I love stories like this. So glad to hear the child is doing well. I wouldn't ever want to be put in a situation where I looked back and said "I wish..." so I am going to now be learning all about this since I have a 2 yr. old at home.

Glad to hear everything is Ok Stacy. I took an infant CPR coarse before my kids were born. Couldn't agree more that everyone should learn how to administer it.

Very Glad things worked out for the best, heard alot of storys about it, my wife is scared to death of it were our grandkids are they have a pool.
CPR is great but there is draw backs , dont get me wrong im in a class Tueday because I coach football and its a requirment but in my state for example a guy is fallen over at a busy resteraunt hes having a heart attack YOU WILL BE REQUIRED to perform cpr no matter if you have the mask or not no matter anything You have to do it if not and somebody says something you can be sued. Now to the other draw back in my state since you are cpr you have to stop at accidents to see if someone needs it, you have to in any public place, and say you perform your cpr and break a rib and anybody can do this even if you perform it correctly then the family or that person sues you its just the bad side of it. I also forgot this once you start cpr you cannot stop tell there breaathing or a dr says you can and let me tell you it well be hard to keep it up.
It is good to know but there is bad sides to it also.
