Light Box - how to remove the insert?

I have a light box on the side of a building. There is a main box about 4 inches deep, then another small one inch frame in front of that box.
I've never had to remove an insert, and I don't really see how to get the frame off.
Any help would be appreciated.

Typically, the retainers are just screwed on.

Typically, the plastic face is held in the cabinet by retainers on all four sides (the 1-inch frame you reference). Often an end retainer can be removed, allowing you to slide the face out sideways.
