Material for Race Cars

What materials are people using for your typical sprint car/late model type wraps and graphics? Curious what others have found that holds up well enough but is cheap enough to meet racer's budgets. In the past I've always quoted 3M-IJ180 and no surprise, we rarely get those jobs.

Racers don't have budgets. They are plain cheap.

Charge what you must and if they don't like it..... screw 'em. They're a dime a dozen and if you wanna work cheap and get a reputation for being cheap, keep perusing racers.

I realize that and don't tend to actively pursue that market. I just want to know what others have found works instead of learning by trial and error. We've had current customers go elsewhere because they offer cheaper materials for racecar graphics. If I get recommendations for a cheaper material and I still can't get close to that pricing I'm ok with that. I'm all for being know for quality over cheapness.

Agree. They are my cheapest customers. I too would like to know what people are using. I cant come close to what some of these guys are getting quotes for. I also use ij180.

Years back when we did them with cut vinyl we used the cheapest material we could find. If it's a dirt car it the graphics or whatever will be lucky to make it a couple weeks before you're redoing something.

That being said I no longer deal with the "roundy pounders" for a number of reasons.

I think a lot of guys use oracal 3165 with 210 lam.

Most race cars have flatter panels so use Oracal 6551 with 210. Even with curves, you can get away with it a little. The graphics always outlast the sheet metal.
And we're not all cheap, we'd just rather spend our money on go-faster-parts.....and beer

I only do them for a couple of family members that race, and we use cheap 3621 removable vinyl with no laminate, and they love it even installing it themselves. It wouldn't matter what you'd use, even if it's the best cast vinyl with laminate, soon as a tire rub happens, it's toast.

Duct tape. Anything that comes out a printer they can not afford or want it for free, but hey they will put your logo on it!

I would suggest Walmart shelf liner.

3165RA with 200 or 210 laminate is pretty much the standard.

3165RA with 200..i tried some briteline recently cause its CHEAP. it tents worse than anything ive ever used. back to oracal next roll. i think i'll try 3651ra cause im sick of the thickness of 3165ra.

i'd use ij35c if i could stand the stench of 3m in my little print room/office.

Ij35 works like a champ. we overlam with oracal 210 lam.

ive done ok this year...and plenty of the race car specialists in and around the surrounding states do quite well. its a niche and the ones that are GOOD at it have plenty of work and get real $$ for it.

Have you been to a Sprint or Late Model race? hehehe don't sweat the material. Plain ole 3651 and 200 lam. 651 for cut and never had an issue with Briteline. Wait till you start pricing the Florescent colors :0)
