Need Help Mimaki UCJV-300 vs Epson 80600

No issues with clogging/maintenance from our couple Epsons. The silver ink seemed to create extra work when cleaning, but never had any issues with clogs.
It is pretty opaque, it is not thick enough to be a "block out white", but works great for backlit sign and can do some awesome effects if you print on reflective.

Hi all,

we're looking for a new printer to replace our JV33 on 2x CMYK.

After reading a lot en seeing a lot we came to the conclusion we go for the Epson 80600 because we're familair with eco-sol inks ...but our Mimaki dealer came back in interest with an proposal for the new UCJV300-160 led-UV printer. Sure I've read the post of the first Italian placed @ Decomurale & andre80 machines but someone else who can share his or here ideas about the 2 or share there opinions or can enlighten us?

Our primarly market are posters, backlit en sticker for fast promotions.

Thx in advance.

Sorry for my bad English!

Did you already purchase your new Epson? Did you ever get a chance to check out Latex units? I am just curious what you have to buy your poster paper for, in that machine. With Latex, you can buy poster papers for $0.09 sq.ft, for your decals, do you laminate them also? If you had latex, you would be able to eliminate laminating all together for decals. For backlits, HP is a great machine for that. Don't get me wrong, Epson and all these guys make good equipment, and if you already have it then congrats!

Hi, thanks for your reply and advice.
Till so far we prefer mimaki because there's; no heating needed in the process, colorfastness is better (compared to Epson if I may believe) & lower electricity bills.
Further; same cheap(er) papers, cheaper media overall and roughly equal ink costs for leduv vs latex in our opinion.

I am pretty sure the Mimaki would use very similar pre, print and post heaters that the Epson's do.

UV printers don"t use heaters at all. LUS170 inks are 150% stretchable frot our tests. ID cut is great function if you own other Mimaki printer. No issues with white at all. We own UCJV for 2 months and believe or not I think that is most suitable printer for backlits.

PS. Apologize for bad English

That was my mixup. I was thinking he was talking about the solvent Mimaki printers, forgetting the (2) printers he was comparing on here. I have an LED UV printer as well.

Does you white ink wash right off like others have had issues with?

I just made some test with window cleaning fluid. No visible rubbing appears. I have found that LUS120 can be erased with alcohol, LH100 can't.

Understanding your post correctly; your test was made with the UCJV with LUS-170 ink right?

I read about the earlier post of the LUS 170 white ink washing off. The only time I have ever had this issue with white ink is if the ink was not properly shaken when asked to be shaken. Ink that has been setting without proper care can affect the curing of the white inks. If you use fresh ink that is properly cared for this issue will not occur. See the testing done at the PDS Equipment demo center for how good the white ink performs if properly shaken. This test is water and scratch pad on LUS 170 inks

There is a definite issue with white LUS-170 ink. There is an official statement released by mimaki Japan saying so. Mimaki Canada will be installing LUS-200 inks in our JVC300 with new firmware to rectify our situation. Will keep you all posted.

Also please Note that the ink washes off between 0-30% opacity the most ( especially in gradients). However even at 100% opacity I am able to rub the ink off with saliva or water and my finger.

Hi, thanks for your update.
Still we haven't had an issue with our whites and/or gradients but I'm very curious to the; "official statement released by mimaki Japan saying so".

UPDATE!!!! After installing the LUS200 inks in the printer I am able to confirm that the issue is completely gone. The white inks are now rock solid. Many thanks to Mark Noden from Mimaki Canada for making this happen!
