Ummmmmm........ I hate it when someone says this all the time, but it actually fits here.

Ummmm, I was looking at a thread just a few minutes ago and was writing a response, When I tried to post it, it said I couldn't do so. I know it was out here in the peanut gallery and not at all hidden from anyone in the membership, but how does something just vanish in a just a coupla minutes ??

Yep! This has happened to me also, I just thought is was Big Brother (Fred) doing his part to stifle Free Speech.

First Amendment to the United States Constitution

The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, as one of the ten amendments that constitute the Bill of Rights.

Just sayin...

Yes, Do you wanna see it ?? I still have it. We can all pretend the thread never existed and I just wrote this stuff for the heck of it.

Like I said, my thread, in my opinion was very helpful.... or would've been, but there are those who think if something is not sugar-coated to suit the masses, it's of no use.

When someone continually bangs their head on the wall, I see it as a sign [no pun] of someone who really wants to learn, but is having trouble seeing the way. They don't need help with any one particular problem, they need guidance and direction which probably isn't possible here with all of the care-givers here not doing this kinda person any good. My opinion, but it's how the West was Won and how all the pattern-makers made it this far. Take away good guidance, regardless of the delivery and you end up with a society of what you see all around you. It's a shame to see so many wasted bodies who can't do anything, cause they've never been taught and didn't have the sticktoittiveness it takes to do it on your own.

Perhaps and perhaps not. It was obvious with the first reply that the OP had taken a bad turn and he requested that I remove the thread. Are you saying I should have denied his request?

Fred, I stand corrected, if the OP was the person who requested removal, then that's alright.

Like Gino posted, in the past I was replying to a thread that might have been a HOT topic (Gun Control maybe), which runs deep with a Vietnam veteran like myself. And all of the sudden, the thread disappears off the face of the planet...

However, I do understand this forum is about SIGNS and we should NOT go to far off topic and debate all the other personal issues in this world.

I take back calling you "Big Brother", you are just the Big Kahuna of Signs 101 and I appreciate all you do for our industry...So please don't ban me from Signs101....

:thankyou:

Now, I'm lost. Perhaps and perhaps not ?? How can that be ?? I'm no wizard, but I do know ya can't have your cake and eat it, too.
Your getting like the others...... are you saying ?? Am I saying what ??

I asked a question. What happened to a particular thread ?? I get no definitive answers, but I do get a song and a riddle.

Someone comes here on at least three occasions with the exact same question. They are answered over and over and yet, the same question is asked again. With this kinda persistence, I finally felt, at least he's not a quitter and he's not taking a thin-skinned approach, so I felt it was time to help and give some guidance in a different direction.

I could care less if threads are removed for whatever reason from stoopid interest, to stoopid content, to stoopid, stoopid, stopid, but it still doesn't help the original OP to his original request, to just delete it.....does it ??

There is nothing lost when asking the most simplest of questions. Even asking the same question in a different manner might open someone's eyes. However, when they don't get it, something needs to be done and this one needs it.

How does he get the help he needs if he decides his thread was dumb or not and you just go delete it for him to save embarrassment ?? He's just eventually gonna do what he wants and probably put together a total disaster, judging by what he's done so far. Is that mean ?? Somewhat, but it's the truth. Sugar-coating it in any way will just put off his failure a little longer. I remember in school when someone asking a question and many times the kids would laugh, but the teacher would say, no class, that's a very well thought out question and deserves a well thought out answer. It's not a black and white answer. It has stages to it, so gather in and listen. Now, I'm sure it's done much differently today with computers, iPhones and tweeter, but the concept is still the same. We all learn at the speed of the weakest link and in this business, there's always a weak link when we're all from totally different backgrounds. When someone has questions like this, he needs guidance. It might seem to him he needs an answer on his design concept, but he needs business management help or delegating help. He needs to know where to draw the line and stop hurting himself. He needs to see it so it sinks in, otherwise all your maybes and possibles keep leading this one off track. Wanna do this guy a favor, start showing him his weakness in business and show him how to rise above what he can't do by finding a way around his shortcomings.

If I wanted to build a huge LED sign on my own, why don't I just learn how to make one, rather than buy one from the experts ?? Sure, I could eventually do it, but I can't do it on my own. I need help. So, I delegate and get the proper help and surround myself with those in the know and get the job done and done right. That's what this guy needs and no one wants to help or evidently can see it. You're all too busy shooting the messenger.

Jeez, I hope you guys are kidding. I'm not even American and I know that your free speech amendment applies only to government, not message boards on the internet.

What is it about the OP requested removal that isn't definitive? You brought in How the West Was Won. All I did was post the theme music from the movie.

Now if you want to have a discussion of posting styles, making assumptions about people, taking on a paternal and condescending tone, and going way beyond the questions asked by any number of OP's or attempting to put a number on how many members might not be around anymore because of it ... well that would be fine in a different thread.

Welcome from sunny, South Florida. :Cool 2:

Nah, just do it here and when the sh!t gets too heavy, I'll just ask to have the thread deleted.........

As for the rest of it, if ya wanna, go ahead, it's your gig. I've already heard it all and while I don't agree with you, I'm fine with whatever spin you put on it. As much as you've heard, so have I, so if you wanna turn this into a real p!ssing match, be my guest. Let's really take this all off track.

.... thanks for the warm welcome......

Fine. Let's examine your posts from the previous thread by Warlick Designs.

Wow....... just plain wow.

So, I take it when in school these days, if the teacher say no Johnny, that's not how to do it..... you must study your lessons some more and try again, that according to this OP, you just talk back to your teacher and tell her/him to tell you what and how to do it. Stop wasting my time, teach, huh ??

Makes it personal while avoiding offering any advice or critique on any of the logo design attempts.

IF I may, the direction you're going is not towards a logo, but more towards making a statement. You seem to want the logo to be out there telling the whole world how you feel about something, whether it be political or forming a new state, you just wanna be recognized as one of the 'Gang'. That's fine, but a logo taking on this direction will probably ruin you in many ways. To be associated with a cause, your logo can stand along side of some recent fad, but join the two together instead of into one idea.

Pontificating based on unproven assumptions. Paternalistic, condescending and more off topic than on.

Your attempts so far, look like some school child has access to a computer with some effects on it and is going to town with no idea of what they're doing, but just doing it anyway. Incorporating graphics or images should take in some concern for your livelihood, unless it's well understood without having to explain. Look at how all of your attempts so far, need to be explained.... and we're all designers, graphic artists and logo developers and we can't figure it out. :omg: How are any customers ever gonna figure it out ?? Oh, that's Bear Signs, I guess they do everything in the nude ??

More of the same with some extra rudeness added.

Seriously, do yourself a favor and make two columns, Pros/Cons, write down everything you can think of that you want in your logo and then honestly weigh out if it's something so personal that only you'll understand vs. the rest of the world. Remember, we are in the business of understanding..... or should I say making words or graphics recognizable in a split second. There's no time for study hall on this.

Finally something verging on being helpful.

That's a horrible story, but I have a better one. Talking about designing in Black & White, first...... there's this billionaire guy who was basically minding his own business and was secretly taped and now lost his rights to almost everything, because someone deceived his personal boundaries. Now, there's something to look forward to for all of us. :rock-n-roll:

And this has what to do with the topic under discussion?

B&W or in color.... all I see is a badge waving his arm and a d!ck hanging out. You just can't get away from these themes, huh ??

Gutter speak is always such a fine way to offer a friendly piece of advice.

So what do those swooshie 'S' parts stand for. The badge is a north symbol and the swooshes are your 'S' ?? So, how does this fit into your plan, Master Luke ??

Why don't you just give it a rest and come back to it in a few days or weeks. Nothing's happening that you hafta solve this logo problem this minute..... is it ??

Sometimes, absence makes for a great healer and you might come up with an entirely different direction. Maybe even a good one this time.

Condescending and belittling.

Listen, in all seriousness.... when Fred has a remark like that, you know it's gotta be bad. He never has a harsh thing to say. Other than banning people, he's got no bad vibes in his character to make that logo into something useable. He gave you the forum's 'Seal of Disapproval'.

After offering virtually no to the point advice you use me to dig a deeper hole for yourself!

Think of this way................ it can't get any worse, huh ??

Great stuff.

You forgot to mention to click your heals three times and say...... there's no place like home...... there's no place like home...... there's no place like home...... there's no place like home...... there's no place like home......

But wait! Let's add to the ridicule.

I submit that this is a regular approach to dealing with members that don't impress you and is intended to make you feel good at their expense if not to run them off. Your turn. :omg:

If he has a desire to be a designer he needs to go to school. If he wants to be in the sign business he needs to hire a designer. The attempts shown were so amateurish, and his inability to understand or implement the advice given made it apparent he needs to study the absolute basics. Not tackle a logo.
