Brick Straps.

I make mostly small to mid size house and property markers. I usually have key-hole slots for a "blind" mount. For odd (trees, fences etc.), or in this case a long sign, I use galvanized brick straps. They are attached with 1 1/2" stainless steel screws.

How well does the galvanized hold up? Does it rust on the ends (from using snips to cut it to length)?

The exposure is so small, it doesn't seem to be a problem.
