Mrs. Efiginia Doubtfire 2-20-99 t0 1-22-10 RIP

bob

It's better to have two hands than one glove.
She was our best friend, our constant companion, and our protector. She was a Komondor, the best of all breeds. She came to us in the spring of 1999, a ball of fur on an airplane from Virginia. We were losing ducks and geese daily and feared for our gaggle Barbados sheep. From the day Efie came to live with us there was never a feather or tuft of fur out of place. She was the definitive livestock guard dog.

She left us an elegant old lady, unable to rise, unable to walk, but with a dignity that was unbelievable. She was one hell of a dog and the only reason I'm posting this is that the passing of such a rare and special friend should not go unnoticed.

bob - I am so sorry. Losing a close friend like that certainly deserves notice.

I raise my glass in salute of Efie... :toasting:

Got a lump in my throat now remembering Sandy - our 14 YO border collie we had to put down after she suffered a stroke in the back yard and lost use of her hind legs. My son and I stayed with her in the vets office as he put her down. We both sat in my truck and cried before I could drive home. I hate to think what it's going to be like when we have to face that with Bubbles, our consummate lapdog li'l bundle of curly fur. She is possibly the smartest canine on the planet. Sorry to hear this bob - I KNOW how ya feel.

I'm sorry Bob. On 11/1/2008 my wife and I loved on our beloved Sassy, our seven-year-old miniature schnauzer, while the vet put her down due to lymphosarcoma (doesn't normally effect schnauzers or dogs that young). I don't know that I've ever cried so hard. She was my first dog (I didn't grow up with animals in the house) and I didn't realize how attached you could get. My condolences Bob.

Sorry for your loss.

It's a tough thing to go through, but I'm sure you have many fond memories and special moments you'll remember and cherish forever.

She'll live long in your hearts.

I just Googled Komondor... they are an amazing breed of dog. I'd like to have one but doubt they'd do well in Texas heat with that amazing coat. It's incredible how they instictively guard other livestock.
