MS Word help - corrupted files??

Bigdawg

Just Me
I downloaded the trial version of MS 2 weeks ago. Everything I've done, though I've backsaved to Word 97 so I can use on my desktop machine.

Every one of those backsaved files comes up as gobbeldy gook when I try to open in either Word 97 or the New version I backsaved in. I only use word to do copywriting, so I'm not in it everyday, but I seem to have lost everything I've done since I downloaded the trial. Files saved from my Word 97 machine are still fine and I brought the docs to work today and they open the same crap that I get at home.

Any help of thoughts??? I have the sinking feeling these are not recoverable.

Yeah - I use open office primarily on my laptop, but had some docs sent that were in a newer version of MS Word and open office didn't pick up the graphics like I needed... I get the same thing from it as everywhere else... these files are just lost. I know it, but was hoping there was some glimmer of a chance they could be saved.

Edited to add: Thanks BorderPatrol I will try that!

google.com " word 97+ corrupt file"

copied and pasted from website.

Wesite says:

It would appear that for whatever reason the file you save is corrupted in some way and there isn't anything I know that you can do about that.

Try opening the file with WordPad.

Try opening the file using: Recover Text from Any File.

From the Menu Bar select File, Open

Change the Files of type: box to Recover Text from Any File (*.*).

Then choose one of your documents and open it.

hope it helps, Good luck

There is a problem between word 97 and word 2k3,, Its well known. Unfortunately the many fixes out there are expensive and do not always work.

Has nothing to do with a DEMO at all.

Make sure you have all the service packs for both versions of word.
