This was all done in illustrator cs3 with live trace!!...nah just kidding. a mouse a keyboard and the handy pen tool. I still need to throw in a background, but I just thought I would share!:beer

This one actually took awhile to do. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 "business" days. I worked on it off and on this last week. I would really like to put down a decent background with my business name and print some t-shirts. Im not sure what others charge for something like this but I sure would like some feedback as to what anybody would recommend charging. I usually charge 45$ an hour for designs, but im not sure people are willing to pay nearly 800$ for a design.

i think that is the problem it's tough to sell stuff like that takes you a long time to do. i mean i can charge about $200 for a airbrushed portrait but if i did one on a t shirt i could only get about $50 bucks for it...

Good idea with the watermark.

Have you played with the envelope tool yet? "Make with mesh" or "Make with top object?"
I'd use it to distort the "78" to lay it down on the panel and into perspective.

Another trick to give the car some weight and definition is to use thicker strokes on the bottom of the shapes to work as a shadow line.

Also, the top inside of the wheel will reflect the ground, so that might give it a touch more zing on the wheels.

Sadly, it's not like they used to... but it's not completely out of line. I've seen it for more, too. Personally, I've been between $400-$800 for work of similar type-automotive style drawings/25-30hours. Most of falling in the mid-range working for a middle man.

You're more competent than most I've seen - a few tweeks and you could go from really, really, really good to outeffenstanding. The background treatment on your last one was great! That's what will put you over the top.

You've got a good eye for detail :thumb:

Wheels look good I might have to put that down! I also have never tried the envelope tool either, Did I mention Im still new to illustrator....Also I was skeptical about selling designs for 800 bucks, so I just sold one today for 400$ Some money is better than none, but I will certainly never low ball. :beer back to my budweiser.

yeah OP these cars as well as late models sprints. mod ect.... are sitting in the trun so turned to the left their turning right to go around the turn

Maybe you should get out to your local dirt track and see it for yourself. these cars, and others, carry so much speed down the straights, they have no choice but to back it in, slide through the turns and hammer down again. its quite a sight.
