Here are some reworks on a logo from yesterday. Hopefully I'm closer this time.

I like the second one down. The first one you lose the Mt. Vernon because its to small and away from the rest of the text. The third one down you lost me on the "S". It looks like it says pine. I like the last one, but I like the squares on the 2nd one. I like that ampersand. Maybe replace the "+" with the ampersand.

take number two and get rid of the checkerboard and pull in the mountain graphic somehow from number three and i think your on to something, and bolder too like just said

Why must it have an icon at all?
I'd go reallllly simple and clean.
Most of those still have a lot going on and not much flow.

I'd have to disagree with Jill (sorry Jill). The very meaning of a logo is a symbol or icon to represent your company. Some of the best logo's out there are just that. For example Target or Nike. Your logo will not match that kind of status or course, I'm just giving an example. There are exceptions to this, but right off the top of my head I can't think of any.

There are plenty of memorable logos out there that are just text and not a symbol representing the company...

the second one from the top without the squares. maybe make the gray a shade darker so it stands out a little more.

Fair enough... is the other distraction for everyone's day work better?

I think you are missing his point. Both the Google and Facebook examples are wordmarks , not three lines of text. Also, they have "icons" ( logos ) that I would argue in Facebook's case at least, are even more recognizable ( more effective )to the public.

I hate to say it, but I'm not a fan of Jill's example either. Perhaps it is the centered alignment.

I just noticed the ampersand on the bottom with the spine worked into it. What about number two with the bolder letters and the ampersand replacing the +. Then you could drop the boxes design because the ampersand incorporates an image.

#2 without the gray frame. I also think you're missing the boat by not miss-aligning the squares like you did in the first thread. It's a clean icon and says a little bit about the profession.

Just in case anyone was wondering, Here is what the client chose, and yes John Butto, I did show him some workups that looked more like a spine but he said everyone was doing that and he wanted something different. I try not to make my logos too literal. I feel a little bit of abstraction engages the viewer.
