OMG Please help me

If i cant get this printer working soon i will have to drag its fat heavy a*se outside and throw the remaining solvent cleaner over it and set fire to it, then i will proceed to dance around it like some crazed printer worshiper sacrifising it to the printer gods.
Ok this may be a bit extreme but honestly i cant get all my laptops and PCs to talk to the bloody thing.
Its a mimaki JV3 160sp. Ive installed all new drivers, mimaki firewire driver, tried it on xp, windows 7. All to no avail.
I get the 1394 port in device manager ok, i also get the mimaki 1394 in device manager. If i go to Device and Printers the printer is there, check the port, mimaki 1394, try to do test print to printer, spooling then freezes on 9% and nothing. Ive tried this on 2 laptops and my PC. All the same.The printer worked fine when i picked it up and was running on xp with firewire. Spoke to the guy who i bought it off and he told me that the technician set it up. I cant get a tech till next week and need this working. If anyone could wave there magic wand and magic me the answer i would be forever in there debt lol.
I must be missing something or do i sack the fire wire and buy a parallel cable.
Any info would be very appreciated.

Forgot to mention, when i try to go into function and check set up after i send test print i get error code 34 data remain. So the printer is getting data but dosnt seem to be doing anything with it.

Parallel will be way too slow, and you'll end up with refresh marks as the printer pauses to cache.

Your getting data, clearly, but it's either corrupt, or the wrong kind of data. Probably the latter. What RIP are you running?

data clear & enter three times should clear the data remain error, but are you using a RIP software?

thanks for comments, im using flexi 8.1 and also have photo print 5. Both are scanvec software and both rips. but i am not using them to send test print. i am trying to send test print from windows printer and devices to see if printer is working before i go into flexi or photo print.

I basically have the exact same set up as you except mine is the 54"... I have no issues running xp (6 years so far) with photprint 5... Maybe photoprint no like win 7?

you can't print directly to this printer from windows.

If you've installed the mimaki firewire driver, setup the driver in windows correctly and have setup the printer in Flexi, you should be good to go.

if not, either the driver isn't working correctly (windows already installed a bad one), the firewire card in the computer is bad, the cable is bad or the card in the printer is bad.

the data remain error means its getting something, but not what it needs to print. it's probably because you're sending it postscript data from windows as opposed to printer data from the RIP.

I've never sent anything to our printers through the Windows Printer & Devices menu. If you have a custom made solution for your industrial machine (Photoprint and Flexi) why would you use something made for 20 year old home printers?

Lap Top printer ports are under powered.
Often the voltage is 3 volts instead of 5 and that causes mass mayhem with too many printers

Thanks for all info guys, ive been using the firewire port which is direct from motherboard. I will install a pci firewire card today and try that to see how i go. I will post when i have tried and let you know how i get on. Cheers

So i tried all of the above and still nothing, then i had a look at the printer and realised it was set to local. I pressed the remote button and it worked. I feel like a complete and utter plank. 3 days spent formatting, installing and uninstalling drivers, different computers, laptops, different cables. Well at least its working, now all i need to do is get the profiles sorted and i am ready to get it making money.
