Outdoor Chess Board

I have a client who wanted a couple outdoor durable, ver durable ches boards, to be mounted on/in a couple existing tables.
I found the perfect product, anodized aluminum chess board at a reasonable price and got the job. Then the manufacturer dropped out of the business. I haven't found a substitute. Anyone have a source? Or an alternative?

does the alum have to be 1/4" thick or can it be like .032 and mounted to something.
i would have to check with my supplier and see how thick we can go but it sounds like you need a metal photo or etched alum for this to with stand the outdoors.
we make military nameplates like this.
if i can't do it there is a place called camcode/metalphoto http://www.camcode.com/ they can probably do it but they won't be cheap. the alum is your biggest expense

Jet black countertop granite (sandblast etched) looks awesome and lasts forever. You can do a lot of cool stuff to personalize it using cheap sign vinyl for mask, so long as you use fine enough abrasive. The sky is the limit for shapes and sizes.

You can also get 12" x 12" jet black granite floor tiles at Home Depot for around $6.00 each, and they're about 1/2" thick so that would really work best for your application. If you need help let me know. Monument work / sandblast etching is our specialty.

I absolutely love Celtic stuff like the one shown below...how's that for inspiration?

Here's their Etsy link: http://www.etsy.com/listing/81759610/celtic-knot-chessboard-granite-etched

if you want to be cheap put some tape on aluminum sheet (it's not expensive, it's only $10 @ home depot for 12"x24") and spray it. clear coat afterwards. go have a drink.
