Outlook Express problem

Yeah, I know. Non-sign related but I have an issue. I am starting up a new computer to use for e-mails (been using the last one for over 2 years). Problem is... now that I have Outlook Express hooked up exactly like my old computer, it starts downloading 7100 e-mails from the internet. It only gets to about 1800, then freezes, stops, and I shut down the program. I start it up again and it starts doing the same thing over again.

WTH!!!???

I can import whatever I want from my old computer, but 7100 e-mails from online??? How do I download ALL of them, or start from scratch............ or, what to do!!!???

Confused and can't figure it out. Any suggestions?

Your old inbox on the old computer will be stored in a folder under identities and it will have a .dbx file extension. Should be called "inbox.dbx" and it should be located in the following directory (make sure you have "hide system files" unchecked so you can see the folders):

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER ACCOUNT NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{1AEFDFA3-AD9E-406E-95F1-9C8DDE04D35C}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\inbox.dbx

The numbers in bold will vary on your machine. Take that inbox.dbx file from the old machine and overwrite the one in the corresponding folder on your new machine. Copy the same procedure for the sent items if you wish.

Make sure the mail program is not running when you do this. Then fire it up again and voila! All should be familiar again. :toasting:

I've done it many times over the years with Outlook Express.

go under tools, options, mail setup, email accounts, view or change email accounts, next , >select the acct name and click "change", go to more settings, and window pos up like attachment , and those are my settings on the screen and have no problems.

May want to leave the delete from sever one unchecked so you emails don't go bye-bye if you don't check them for a while.

Can you access your email through your server? The problem seems to be that your old setup left a copy of the email on the server, so the new computer considers all of these new emails since it's never seen them.

If you can access online, then you can delete the emails that you want there... if you aren't sure contact whoever your email is through to find out how to get to the online control panel for the email.

i would definitely contact whoever runs your email account as bigdawg said, the messages weren't deleted from the server.....that helps if you have and email program setup at home and want to still be able to download the emails at work but not if you're on your primary computer

Flame you should be able to get to your isp email through webmail. once you get there you can delete all the old email you do not want to download.
