In Photo shop CS or CS4, while I'm masking photo's out of backgrounds and after I delete what I dont want, the picture comes out looking transpearent. Is there something I'm doing wrong here?

Do you mean the entire picture (sort of lensed) or do you just mean the part you erased or deleted?

It's so light it doesn't pick anything up when I saved it.

The picture I'm keeping looks like if I were to put a 90% lens on it, it's so light I can't see the image. Is there something that should be on or off?

This is the first time this has ever happend.

Never had that happen.

Have you tried masking your images using add layer mask?
This is a great tool.

Do you have a lens effect set on your layer? (right-click on the layer then check under something like blending options -- I'm using Photoshop 7, so it might be worded differently in your version)...

Not at all, what I'm getting is alot like if you took a normal picture and put it at about 10% opacity.

I also tryed the vector mask and samething.

Have you tried masking something else out in a new document?
May be close PS and start fresh.

Is your Opacity and Fill at 100%?

Yes I tryed masking other pictures, and the same thing. Funny thing is I must be doing something wrong, I tryed it on 2 different computers, one using CS and the other CS4 and the same thing is happening. Opacity and Fill are at 100%

Is there an additional alpha channel ? I've seen that before -- screws things up in weird ways sometimes -- problem goes away when the channel is deleted.

Are these pictures you scanned yourself, or supplied by someone?

From a digital camera my customer brought it in, I downloaded them myself.

all these pictures you're having trouble with are all from the same camera? what about pictures from other sources?

Same thing, I tryed different pictures I have in my computer and I just scanned one doing the same thing. I have to be doing something wrong, what I just don't know, I never had this happen before.

Can you post part of the image?

just use a different approach until you can run to bookstore and buy PS for Dummies.

Use the pen tool to select around your apple, adjust your nodes if needed, click to make selection - invert the selection and then hit delete.
