My dad called me yesterday afternoon and told me that my brother passed. He had been diagnosed with lung cancer, and was going through radiation and chemo. When I talked to him a couple of weeks ago, Pat was telling me that he was tired, but the cancer cells were shrinking, and the doctors were pleased with how well the treatments were working. He was 53.

My 18 year old niece found him in the bathroom already passed, and she called 911 and cleaned up before my sister in law got home.

My family was not that close, and growing up, I never really knew Pat, as he was 14 years older than I am. We did connect several years ago at the Myrtle Beach Bike week, and I spent several days with him. We did talk more, but not enough.

The last thing that I told him was when he got stronger, we were going to do a week long bike tour, most likely up to Sturgis, as brothers. I'm so sad that we will never get to do that trip.

I beg all of you to spend time with your brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers as you can. I wish I had spent more time with mine.

so sorry to hear of your loss. sorry you and your brother won't get the chance to take that trip but I bet that just the thought of the plan was enough to give him a warm and happy thought to take with him.

since my near death, april 17th, and coming back...........i make sure i say i love you to most of the people in my life. life is like a light switch, one second your here in the light, and just that quick, its dark and silent.

Sorry for your loss, K-G.

BTW, yesterday was Brother Day, apparently. At least my bro sent me a text yesterday morning wishing me Happy Brother Day. We used to be partners in the shop and spent 60+ hours a week together. Although he only lives 1/8-mile from me, now I only see him once or twice a week at Little League games. I'll use this thread to motivate me to help us get a little closer.

So sorry for your loss............... Prayers and thoughts out to you and your family.

It is a terrible thing when we have to be reminded of the simple things and not take them for granted.

i'm so sorry for you Kottwitz! sorry that your brother didn't have more time here and so very sorry you didn't have more time together. :(...

this hits close to home for me, my brother is fighting for his life... but i am blessed... he knows exactly how i feel about him and he never misses an opportunity to tell me either... even before he was ill.

to everyone: if you have family members or friends you don't speak to often, send them a text! you may think it sounds impersonal... but i have texts from my brother that i'll hold dear for the rest of my life!

you can make someone's day or week with a few words... believe me i know!

So sorry for your loss. I'd do a ride to Sturgis anyway, in his name. He will be watching and smiling from above. I find the bike ride a great way to think things out and reminisce.

I am so sorry to hear about your brother.
I would do the ride myself, it may be a time of healing for you.
I lost my beloved sister in March very unexpectedly and almost lost my least favorite brother 6 days later to a massive stroke.
Needless to say I have become closer to all my siblings as a result.
Love....Jill
