printing photos

i use gcvp profile.printing on 651 or orajet.
when i print a photo some parts of photo prints like a black when it should print the color it sees...
example a picture of someone weaing a royal blue shirt the shirt in the phot has like a different color of blue (do to the lighting of the photo) but it still is blue but when i print it prints lke black where that shade is it seems to fill in black at several differen spots where shades are...its just something with profile or media not sure i am new to this but i know you all call this something when this occurs..but anyway the heads are firing fine and all other vectors print nice but photos is different...
any comments or suggestions on how to print photos on vinyl...thanks,,

Printing on 651? Are you seriously printing on oracal 651 vinyl, that might be part of the problem. First off use media made for printing, then if printing photos try doing it as a tiff file.

You don't need to raise the heads. We use the GCVP profile on most Oracal calendered vinyls with good results. You might want to try outputting the file as RGB instead of CMYK - we've had better luck using that with photographs

Like Mosh said......651 is a cut vinyl. It's not made for printing on. Why aren't you using GCVP?

print on vinyl thats supposed to be printed on and make sure your not making the photos larger then they can be made and having color drop out

do i output in versa i out puted from flexi in rgb as a eps and took it to versa..thanks for helping all but still have problems printing photos on banners as well they print dark...

What ink are you using? What temp are the heat settings?

What rendering intent are you using for the photos? Perceptual is best for photos. Next is what Dither type was used. Try other profiles.

For me using a converted CJ 500 I found that a WTBM (for solvent not eco sol) profile worked well on a lot of things but due to using non Roland inks the colors are off on photos. With made profiles the colors are better but ink levels need to be adjusted to keep from getting too dark like you said.

Try dropping all ink limits to 70% just to see if the photos are any better.

I printed on Oracal 751 and it prints real nice and they say its for thermal print but not anything about eco sol ink.

First, 651G prints great on a Roland SP....
We use it for basic decals and go through about 1-2 rolls a week, it has a better white point and stronger adhesive than the cheap print vinyls.(3164, 3640, 3651)

Lam with 210.

For pics, try and print the JPG file unless you are doing contour cutting.

Let us know what setting you are using right now. If you can go over the setting the best you can it might help others to say what you might be doing right or wrong. I don't use or know versaworks so I can't say where to find all those settings but they should be listed and you should be able to see what options you have.

Ink is a key for the colors.

I know some guys who take the risk and go cut vinyls to run through their machine. When I try to suggest otherwise, I get the "no offense, but it works and it's cheaper" so for the time being, it is the thing to do for them..UNTIL all of a sudden a problem goes wrong then it usually starts with "what the hell is wrong with my machine"..

I know some people have had success with it, but that doesn't mean it's the best thing to do..I can run my hand over a heat press as close to the platen as possible..doesn't mean I am never gonna get burned. Thats just my opinion
