PrismJet VJ 1204

Well, I got through testing my printer out and it turns out that Randya is WRONG! My VJ 1204AS actually does have Banner 2 (540x720 bi). I just got though printing a 3' wide banner on B2 and clocked it at 87 sqft/hr. That's pretty close to Mutoh's published speed of 98 sqft/hr, and the shortfall is probably due to the fact that I was printing 3' wide and not 4'. It is definitely NOT defaulting to Banner 1, which is rated at only 55 sqft/hr.

That's the good news. The bad news is that I'm missing Graphics 2, the high speed vinyl mode. G2 does not appear in my setup menu, and I have not managed to print over 37 sqft/hr regardless of which profile I use. Graphics 2 has a published speed of 76 sqft/hr.

Jim Doggett at Signwarehouse mentioned that the first 15 1204AS models may be different than the rest. Mine is tail number 11. So my machine may not be the same as other 1204AS models.

As far as I can tell, the 1204AS, aka "Prismjet VJ 48" is missing Graphics 2 and Banner 4 print modes. Banner 2 works fine.

Yes, USUALLY it is no problem, but if you power everything off the printer MUST be powered on first DHCP (dynamic IP) will read the IP address and NOT assign it to something else. For some reason DHCP seems to know that the static IP address was used and will assign it to something else, creating a conflict.

There have been other cases where there are problems through the router.
A dual network card circumvents all that for those non IT types.

The other night I solved the problem with my VJ 1204AS not talking to my machine.

By default, my VJ was set to 192.168.1.253

My D-link router assigns IP addresses from 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199. I belive other routers use the 192.168.1.xxx domain, but D-link uses 192.168.0.xxx.

I changed the VJ's IP to 192.168.0.200 to get it on the router's domain, but outside the dynamic IP assignment range. Once I changed the IP in Flexi everything worked beautifully with no need to set my RIP machine manually to the 192.168.1.xxx domain.

That little "1" makes quite a difference. :)

Good,

There are however some cases that have problems with the '0' field.
So we have moved away from it to '1'.
