Process of elmination

After replacing dampers, wipers, scraper and ink cartridges I believe I have found the problem why my SP-300 won't print when using magenta.

The small tube that the magenta damper goes on is only half the length of the other tubes so I believe this is problem. Is this tube tapered on the top or just it just look that way. I have about half the tube sticking out that the other dampers have.

When I use a syringe attached to the bottom of the damper the magenta flows right into the damper.

How big of a job is it to replace this part?

Is it tech time or I can I do it?

Where to find the part in another problem.

Thanks Jim

Ink line

The ink lines have no taper on them. They may get that way over time from the solvents but they have a 2mm id all the way. If you are getting ink to the damper and the head does not fire at all I would tend to think it is electrical.Cx the ribbon cables and make sure all the contacts are good (do this with the printer unplugged)
Changing ink line is not a big deal, we sell it for a buck a foot

Thanks Robert

I am thinking that if the damper is not sitting correctly on the nipple since it is about half the length of the other nipples that this is the air leak.

When I use my syringe to pull ink from under the new cap tops with the heads parked on them I only get yellow coming through.

The broken nipple must be just enough to create an air leak.

I can connect my syringe to the bottom of the magenta damper and it fills up with ink just fine so the damper is doing what it should do.

Do I have to remove the head from the printer to change the manifold or does it unscrew from the top without removing the head?

Thanks Jim Hill

Ru Roh. You need a new manifold. Once you break that nipple off it will suck air like there is no tomorrow.

I have a New manifold on the way and it should be here by Thursday morning.

Next question is how hard is it to change?

A friend just told me it's not hard but I will have to remove the head along with the cables and he told my to make sure all the power is turned off and the printer is unplugged.

Thanks for your help. Jim

Not hard. It would be a good idea to take note of the head rank that's on the old manifold before you pitch it just in case you ever need it again.
