Programs for Printing to EDGE ? ? ?

Marc,
4edgetalk may be a ghost town at the wrong time of day... but through the search feature... it is still a wealth of information dating back before signs101... & it is extremely focused on edge talk, as one might expect... not that other sign or o.t. discussions are not present or not tolerated... but it just ends up being lots of edge talk. It is also a great bunch of folks over there, & what I really logged back on to mention, is the annual edgehead get together in Shippenville PA is coming up. I met Terry there last year & I know he plans to be there again. Signlab was also there... & the owner of 4edgetalk who hosts the meet at his shop is a distributor for signlab & has been using it exclusively for his edge printing for quite some time... in short, you could without a doubt learn more in a weekend there then the value of the travel expenses... so I wanted to make sure you knew about it.

If only I could have talked Braveheart into coming to work here I could go again this year :Big Laugh

Marc if you sign back onto 4edgetalk make sure you use your real name. I noticed the other day that your post had you "handle" and I think they may have deleted your thread.

Marc they most likely deleted you from there do to getting hammered by porn, that why I told you to create it with your real name. Don't give up on it, it is one of the best resources for the edge.

One more thing ...

Marc:
I just remembered one more peice of information about printing from flexi to the edge. I found that printing in CMYK did not give me the best results. Therefore I experimented and found that printing in just CMY printed a far better final product. Give it a try!

Good Luck !

Thanks, Terry

I'll experiment with it . . .

BUT - I think I'm gonna just keep producing with the great results I get from SignLab . . .

The few times I printed on my Edge with Flexi I got beautiful results after bumping the Cyan up by 20% and also increasing the LPI setting on the halftone I was using.

I don't use it much out of choice because I didn't want to deal with so different an approach to setting up and producing Edge prints as compared to Omega which I have learned very well at this point.

I have also tested SignLab with my Edge and found the output to be excellent.

By far the easiest way to print and cut directly from Adobe Illustrator was MacImprint, courtesy of GSP themself.
Simple, fast and powerful. No importing from another app. No dongle.
Still running it on Illy 10, Mac OS X.

What is the maximum size that you can print to the Edge from MacImprint? We are stuck at just under 12" (using MacImprint) and I am trying to figure out how to squeeze an extra 1/4" out of the "edge-2". I looked through the settings and couldn't find a way to do it. It auto-tiles the art when I get over about 11.75". It looks like there is physically enough room on the vinyl and on the foils to go a larger.

A little OT but I've joined 4edgetalk like (3) times now and never been allowed access . . .

I get the pending approval emails and then, nothing . . . and login never works . . . bummer . . . that really sucks !

I'm new to the biz and using an Edge 2 w/ the enVison plotter. I've just been using Omega with satisfactory results. Is there any advantage to using Flexi or SignLab?

for use with a Gerber Edge . . . Good Luck !

Maximum size you can print on an Edge is 11.8"w.

I used to get a little more than 12" out of it when we used the first version of the Gerber macImprint software (back in 1999). I stopped using the edge and now that I have one again I have the latest macImprint software for mac Os X and it is different that what I used to use.

You are correct about the 11.8" size limit. I must have remembered the cut limit.

What do you do if the edges of your prints look smeared or blurry? I already cleaned the head.
