R.I.P. Adam "MCA" Yauch of the Beastie Boys

bob

It's better to have two hands than one glove.
It all depends on who that other person is.

That's fine but it doesn't address the question. That being why does someone's notability quotient seem to determine the level of sadness at their passing?

It often seems if someone has sufficient notoriety and sucks the pipe there usually are people shrieking and wailing like a Sicilian widow at a funeral. Over someone they most likely never met, never knew, and had no real effect on either their lives or the course of history in general.

Why is that the case?

Bummer. Licence to Ill was one of my first cassette tapes ever when I was a little kid.
Hope he went out peacefully.

Me too. I had the Single 45 also. Actually sold that on Ebay a while back. Now I kinda wish I hadn't. Never got to see them in concert either.

well, let's do an experiment...

you go suck your exhaust pipe (properly) & I'll monitor how many people give a ratsass if we don't get to enjoy you being around to call our friends dickheads for the rest of our days...

...and then I will compare that number (or lack thereof) to those who think Adam had a few more good records in him, and would be less sad if those records were recorded...

deal?

I see that you, like your understudy, cannot seem to resist being an a$$. But then the both of you were exactly the people I expected to be unable to respond in any other way.

It was a honest question.

you on the other hand have stooped to not responding in the manner I expected...

...underneath the token reference to your own untimely demise... you seem to have overlooked entirely that I have in fact answered your honest question, honestly...

you are usually better than that...

I ask an honest question and you, ill-tempered and poorly raised child that you seldom fail to give every appearance of being, somehow must act the fool. Are you so lacking in judgement and manners that you must be a d1ckhead no matter what the circumstances?

#1 Never bring up manners to me, as you've already proved you have none.

#2 Your post was insanely assenine. How about you use judgment next time, even a 9 year old knows the difference between losing someone who has impacted your life, and someone you have no idea who they are or what they've done.

#3 You post up something positive to a community or a good point, I'll probably congratulate you or give you a thumbs up. You start insensitively trolling, I'll call you out. Like a normal human. Nuff said.

Why? I ask this in all sincerity.

Is it more sad when some obscure ninth tier notable folds than when anyone else sucks the pipe?

Again, I ask in all sincerity. I'd really like to know.

Think of anyone in your life that you have looked up to. Whether it is an artist, teacher, actor/actress. Anyone. If they passed away, you are telling me you would not be sadden by the news. Did I know Adam personally? No, but his music meant something to me personally. For that, I am sadden that we have lost an amazing artist.

Yes it is sad when anyone passes away and I feel for every family when I hear about someone losing a family member or friend.

That's a bad assumption right there. I think the problem that you have is that you are focusing on the wrong thing. I feel sad over the lost of what their music meant to me when I was growing up. Rather or not he chased the dragon or any other smoking narcotic was irrelevant to how I feel. Do I find it disgusting? Sure do. But that's not what I'm missing. It's the music and what it meant during my formative years.

Now, I have been known to do what you have done which is focusing on the negative, but you have to remember, that negative may not even enter into the equation with some people.

Over someone they most likely never met, never knew, and had no real effect on either their lives or the course of history in general.

Why is that the case?

Behavioral psychology should help you in this endeavor.

I think you are looking at it all wrong. This is a social environment (signs101) if someone we personally know died it would not be as ez to talk about it with people we frankly barely know. Andam Yauch died, is it hitting me harder than someone in my family passing? No. But it would be awkward to talk about that with people we don't know all that well and more importantly don't know the diciesed. Adam touched or at least played some form of roll in the people commenting in this thread, and we are just sharing our thoughts socially.
I usually gasp or at least wonder "what is up" with people that get all upset when celebrities die. But when I heard this today I was saddened by the news. Even if we surround ourself with family and friends we are all still alone in this life.

I am sure this thread has went crazy, I started this reply like 3+ hours ago so sorry if this comment has been said.

@ Bob, the BBs were extremely talented. They were like a loud shirt that if you looked at upon closer inspection you saw a lot of preparation and thought went into it. They were not quite my taste, but they were very very smart.

Who is nearly 50 and doesn't just love to hear "She's On IT"?

A sad day indeed.
The Beasties gave untold people a lot of pleasure.

Inergalactic would have to be my favorite BB tune.

Ya I think they started in 78 or 79 and I think License to ill was their first hip hop album. Still one of my favorite CD's in my collection.

Obviously not every music celebrity who dies does so by way of substance abuse.

Adam "MCA" Yauch had been battling cancer for the past 3 years. It started in one of his salivary glands. Movie critic Roger Ebert had something similar; he survived but the cancer took his lower jaw and he has to eat via a feeding tube in his stomach now.

Yauch's death is sad for any fan of the Beastie Boys. He was also a partner in a fledgling independent movie company, Oscilloscope Films.

Sabotage was a vicious single, almost a decade after their peak. Most people sit and b!tch about their "almost was" forever. God bless the Beasties, Def Jam, and the Yaunch (MCA) family for giving us something to celebrate, when everything seems to suck so bad.

Keep on trucking and doing what you do best
