I have a busy graphic that uses custom brushes, transparency and layer effects and some imported vector art... but no matter how I save, flatten or make smaller, they won't rip at all... in my VW. I sent one of the files to the guy I brought the printer from and it ripped and printed fine. I followed his recommendation and uninstalled, tossed all the folders, reinstalled and upgrade via restarts and it still won't work... any thing familiar to anyone?

Flattening the file should definitely take care of this. Once flattened, the RIP doesn't know or care what proprietary effects have been used. It simply sees pixels.

In Illustrator, try expand. that should make all brushes and special effects turn into vector objects and yes, also flatten
