Raster VS Vector Sign for the Shop

I am wanting to put up a poster in our shop that can explain the difference between raster and vector artwork. My question is, has anyone else done this? If so, did you make your own or find one somewhere? Are you willing to share? I could make my own, just thought it would be quicker if someone out there would be nice and share.

Nice in theory, but I think it will go in "one ear and out the other" with quite a few of the customers. People nowadays just don't want to be bothered with "trifles".

It's more than that. Most customers are not graphics people and don't give a crap. If you want to get good art you go above them to their marketing departments or their company designers or hit brandsoftheworld or whatever. You can waste your entire life trying to talk vector vs raster to laypeople.

Also keep your own logo assets file, ours is over 20,000 logos collected over time. You're always a better source for good art than the secretary or whoever you're dealing with at company z.

You can't explain it to them and besides, their eyes just glaze over.

You say to them here is what we require. If this is what you supply to us, we're good to go, if not, it's back to the drawing board and like mentioned, let's talk with your marketing or graphics department.

The post earlier today "Why must customers design banners in photoshop" got me thinking about this. We have a lot of walk in customers that think that they can design their own signs in Microsoft whatever and use crappy jpeg's from their Google search. I want to put something up that has what we require for graphics and have images to show the difference like Gino said. I guess I will sit down tonight and start working on it. If I can just have one person say "Oh, I understand, why don't you design it for me." Then I can charge them for the design time. Or, someone says "I understand, I will get you good art." Then my time will be worth it. I know this is not likely to happen because customers don't care, they want it to look great, be cheap, and done fast. I usually tell them they can have two of those three options.

You wouldn't believe what I get about 90% of the time when they want something digitized. Almost always in word and quite a few times I can tell that they layered JPGs on top of one another, because the bounding box of the top layer obscures some of the text.

What makes it worse is that I'm able to muttle through it and get them a good product, so they just think that they can continue to send "art" like that out.

Here's what I set up on my website in an attempt to explain the difference:

Good, but still too wordy. I got through it all, but I know what you are talking about. A lot of the people out there won't or they will lose focus at certain words.

For in the store, I would just have a visual representation and then if you are asked questions or you can refer to it during the conversation if the topic lends itself.

Very hard to do over the web, it has to be done with words, but the more that you have on there, the more chances you have to lose somebody.
