Reception Desk Area?

Our reception area has become "Cluttered" with the different products, examples, visual aides, etc...

We recently got the PhotoTex material in and so far WOW great stuff. So I'm thinking it would be good to try and get the walls wrapped with the different products to open the space and remove the "clutter"
Has anyone done something similar to this? the hesitations are if there is wall damage how do you repair without replacing the entire section or do you laminate the material?
What about customers expectations, if they see the matte/canvas style of the wall how do you explain the finished product will be different and does that take away from the whole point about displaying the examples?

with that we looking for ways to decrease the time wasted with "tire kickers. We already have the "circles" in use

I have seen a couple threads of front desk areas that have the "price boards" for quick referencing, for those that use this has it helped eliminate the wasted time with tire "kicker"? Where do you draw the line on the number of products/prices listed? Do you have any issues with people who see the "basic" price but expect the "premiere" product?

Reception Desk Area - Excuse me - Command Central

I came into a disorganized ugly mess hidden behind a huge collection of pretend plants and bare walls with the exception of the graphics under the counter and on the right hand wall.

The floor has some graphics as well leading into the shop area, part of which can be seen as one enters the door.

I have tried to organize so it is neat & clean, pleasing to the eye, as well as informative.

On the front counter we have two generalized stacks of pricing sheets the customers can review to order and/or take with.

One has general categories (Banners, Canvas Prints, Yard Signs, Laminate Poster Board) and the other has Canvas Print options & sizes.

On the back wall, I am accumulating a collage of canvases, some of which we use when we have vendor tables at events. I would like to be able to have samples of other signs for new customers to view, but not EVERYTHING we do as I do not function well in clutter.

Yes, wrong profession to avoid clutter. I am the momma of the place constantly picking up and tossing plastic bags, pieces of tape, edges that were cut, etc.

On the table against the back wall I sit the completed jobs awaiting pick up - sort of meets my desires to have samples of other work for viewing.

VERY CLEAN, props for that.
Very true this profession seems to easily become clutter unless efforts are made.

We really need to finish cleaning up our reception area. We used to have this terrible cramped space that was always full of clutter and junk. So last winter I decided to demo this stupid, useless piece of junk furniture that was taking up space and making me mad in the front of our shop. I built a reception area and moved my desk. We recently painted one of the walls, but we are SO BAD about finishing anything. It looks 1000 times better than before, but it is still kinda a mess.

On the other hand, when you come to our shop, you know we are busy. And all the nosy busybodies are always checking out what we are working on, so I think they like our setup.

I had thought about taking lots of designs/photos of all of the work we've done, and put together our best work and just have a big collage on the wall and print it on PhotoTex. I don't have a massive showroom, and apparently I can't get people to go to our website cause half my customers that OWN BUSINESSES don't have a computer or smartphone. I'd love to see someone who already took this idea and ran with it.
 
We just closed on our new property. We are moving from a 1600sqft building to a 4000sqft location. I will post pictures because we are doing a lot of painting and planning on have small showroom and plenty of printed graphics.

Not sure if you've seen these before or not, but here's my recent renovation. More of a showroom than reception area, but it serves as both. I suggest everyone do there best to make your shop look as impressive as possible. It really has made a difference in public reaction and acceptance of my work over the local competitors operations. Like they say, you only get one chance to make a first impression....

Very nice! Your reception/showroom appears to be bigger than our entire operation!

I cannot wait for the day we can move to a better location. We are buried in the back corner of an industrial area - share a warehouse with GW storage.

We want a location on a real business street with real traffic and customers stopping in daily!

Just stay patient GW, strive to be the best you can be, and it will eventually happen. If it's any consolation, I've been working towards this for forty years. Most people have retired long before then. But I still have fun making signs so why quit now?

I have presented a plan to the powers that be, it just takes the slow moving cogs of non profit workings a while to process new ideas.

I have been working for the company for 12 years and have seen it in action.

We have a number of departments that would easily be small businesses in their own right. Instead of having them scattered to the corners of the world, fit in spare rooms in other buildings, they should all be housed in one higher profile location to form a "Goodwill Mall".

Even the location I have in mind would place us closer to the corporate offices (which we have to go to daily anyway) and dead in the path of folks traveling into downtown Nashville.

So, I am going to be clicking my ruby slippers and repeating the inspirational quote from the Little Engine that Could - “I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I know I can.”

Gino the pool tables stayed at my old shop at home, in the new improved man cave that is under way. What else would I do with all that empty space??? :)
