Recommendation on an odorless printer for indoor use

Hello,

Extremely excited that business is doing well and we have a need to buy new equipment to keep up with our timelines.

We do helmet decals, mostly football but have done any sport that wears a helmet. From hockey to Moto cross to lacrosse. As of late we are starting to get more and more lacrosse helmets.

We own an edge fx and envision. One lacrosse full wrap is 11.8" X 30" on average for all parts. Most are 3 to 5 colors. It takes a long time to get the orders out cus of the one pass method and the short width. Since the wraps are cut to the edge and we do t need clear areas like on other sports. I want to buy a cmyk plus metallic but would be awesome if we needed to I could get a cmyk plus metallic plus white

We like our decals thick so we use convex , 3m or substance depending on the job. The printer is inside and we need something with no order so I am thinking latex.


Not sure though, any feedback would be appreciated.

There is no latex available with metallic and white.

Even with a metallic eco solvent (not odorless), you will not be satisfied with the metallic effects in comparison to thermal transfer metallic.

You could check the Summa DC4. It is thermal transfer like the Gerber, but with a printing width up to 127cm, and up to 8 colours set in the machine at the same time (no need to change ribbon cartridges). And it is print & cut.

But: because of the ribbons are not wide as the media, some little banding could appear every around 10cm. And the printer isn't fast too. But I really like it.

The mimaki cjv30 has metallic and white in eco solvent ink. A friend of mine ran one for several years. Basically not odor, however, running the metallic ink was not worthwhile. I would consider the results more of a pearl finish. With the cost and waste with the metallic you would need to use it a lot to make it worthwhile. The machine actively pumps out the ink to prevent print head damage along with the heads firing. The white is not completely opaque like on the edge.

Like Frank said for what you are doing the summa may be a better choice.

If I could get a machine that does white fairly well not as good as the edge is ok. If it doesn't do metallics that is ok to as we can just run them jobs on our edge fx.

I I would at least want cmyk plus white though even if it's not as opaque. There is a lot we can do with cmyk for lacrosse and since it has no clear edge like our football decals. I would just have to buy chrome material and print on that to get that shine.

i been waiting for almost a year from summa to get me print samples from files I sent them. Their customer service and response time is what kept me away the first time and what is keeping me away the second time.

how much would you charge me for some sample prints of chrome and one of a cmyk job? I want to see how that prints on clear material and white sir.

Epson S80600

I would recommend the new Epson Surecolor S80600. Lots of improvements and it has white and metallic that can be used and then flushed at will.

Contact Phil @ Summa, he will send you all the samples you can handle. In the samples he sent me I saw no banding in any of them, I've read the horror stories as well. I was told it was an in proper set up and really I was not to concerned, the prints looked great. Now I know the manufactures samples will be flawless, that's why they send them.

Sir, I sent them artwork like 6 months ago and still have not heard back from them. I am really concerned on banding and I want to see my large prints on their machines but I can see that if they dont print and ship it to me.

I too would be hesitant on spending my cash with a company that can't reply to emails...

I never had that problem, reached out and within days got a call, then samples, then follow up calls after the samples.

When they didnt follow through, I decided to but the edge fx. I love the edge and envision combo I have and GMS are very responsible. I will admit though, I do want a bigger footprint so I can get more done.

I will keep using my edge but want to compliment the set up with a machine I can do my prints for lacrosse that can be done in cmyk and banners would be cool to.

I was looking at the versacamm and it looks like the prints are pretty cool.

The latex may be less damaging but I find the smell more offensive.

When they didnt follow through, I decided to but the edge fx. I love the edge and envision combo I have and GMS are very responsible. I will admit though, I do want a bigger footprint so I can get more done.

I will keep using my edge but want to compliment the set up with a machine I can do my prints for lacrosse that can be done in cmyk and banners would be cool to.

This picture you posted is just a graphic rendering. That is not a real static clean print. If you zoom in the resolution of the cling is worse then the resolution of the door. This is a picture of a door with a graphic rendering of the static cling placed on top.

I don't know what your smelling but we have ours in a 10x15 room and there is no smell at all.

hmm.... All my latex printers are much better as far as smell goes than any solvent I've used.

I've used HP 25500, 26500, and 360 and all work and smell much better than solvent. Solvent sucks. I'll never go back to solvent.

As for metallic and white ink. You are asking a lot out of your printer. I would use metallic laminates instead of printing metallic. And for white, I would print on clear and back it with white, or use cut vinyl, or use the edge for small pieces if possible.

Might want to check that out, I have my HP 310 that runs about 3 to 6 hours a day, zero smell, and this is a finished basement, not some large shop. I passed on the Roland due to the odor from the ink when we went and saw the demo.

The HP 110 Latex can now be had for $7,200 NEW, which is a steal.

Well that blows...I just got my 110 at the end of march...rushed to buy it so id get the free take-up reel...should have waited
