Roland VersaCamm VP-540, randomly stops printing with "Now Processing" message

My company has a Roland VP-540 and recently starting having issues regarding large prints. The job rips and starts printing as normal, but randomly the printer will stop printing in the middle of a job, and keeps displaying a "Now Processing" message on the printer screen. I'll look at Versaworks on my computer and it no longer displays an active job, as if it thinks it finished it. It displays "Status: Not connected" and have to power off the printer to get it to reconnect. I thought maybe it was a bad ethernet cable, but a change in cable didn't seem to help. The firmware is at its latest as well.

1. Try printing a different file.
2. Delete all the files in the Versaworks input and job folders.
3. You can try re-installing Versaworks.
4. If these don't work, it likely the network circuitry is starting to fail. This is a well-known issue with the mainboard on this model. Search this forum for VP-540 and network threads. There are some workarounds that may or may not work. Certainly worth trying. Good luck!

I had this issue for several months. Drove me nuts :-0! Tried cleaning the encoder strip, changed network IP's, ran new shielded cables, bypassed serge protector, turned off virus software, tried different computers, re-installed Versaworks and several other moves. I finally had my main board re-built for about $400.00. THAT fixed the problem for me. Likely was the network chip mentioned above. No more biting my nails waiting for a print to fail.

Who did the rebuild for you?

I found these guys on eBay but they also have a website. They were fast to repair. Shipped out my board and it was back within ten days. You can see by the images that they replaced several components. They also warranty for 2 years.

I have the same issue. its a known issue on the main board. I have changed a few oscillating crystals and that did not fix the problem like it has for others. I suspect a broken trace in the layers of the board. The only way i can keep it printing is by having a small heater under the main boards location.
