Sticking vinyl to a staircase?

I've been asked to create a graphic design that will be applied to the riser part of a staircase in an elementary school. The surface is a type of vinyl/rubber that is somewhat slick. I'm not sure how well the vinyl will hold up. There will not be direct contact with the vinyl as people go up and down the steps, but the flat part of the steps get mopped clean daily. Has anyone done a similar project that could comment on this? Thanks.

I assume it will be a "permanent" application; if so I would use some Arlon DFP8000 for this project or the Avery (air release) high tack vinyl if you are not that experienced with install.

Also don't post photos of it on here or anywhere else online.... graphics applied to stair risers to make an image is patented. We got a nastygram from a lawyer representing the company that has the patent on it several years back. Just search google if you don't believe me. I have no idea how one can patent something like that... :banghead:

Good hell. Next they'll patent dots of ink on vinyl to form an image or vinyl letters on signs to form words...

Wow, thanks for the warning. I did look up the patent and it does exist. After reading through the documentation I realized what it is they have patented. It's the method of taking a large image and dividing it into sections so that it appears seamless. I didn't realize how flawed my thinking was about the same subject. I had taken a large image and superimposed it on a staircase, then blocked out the front lip of each riser creating something similar to looking through window blinds. I figured I could just print each section and apply to each riser - duh! I failed to account for the depth of each step. I guess we will have to come up with plab B, which will be very simple. I'm sure the client will not pay to have a mathematical exercise from a foreign country, although I did not get a quote on what they charge.
