straighten lines

i am trying to figure out if there is a way to straighten a line. i see moving the nodes can do it but id just like to select the line then make it straight. i could move the nodes for weeks and still not get it, im sure there is a simple way im just new. thanks in advance

By straighten line what do you mean? Is the line a curve and you want to make it straight or are you trying to make them parallel?

just take out all middle nodes, and set the two end nodes to 'line'

Select the points> use align horizontal, align vertical or align points on your path edit toolbar.
