Sunday Story Time or the building of a Brush Box

I like to do woodworking in my spare time. The original inspiration for this project was from a post of a couple of years ago (I can't seem to find it) It was about someone finding an old brush box up against a wall where the new printer was going to be. This box is made of quarter sawn white oak, and the plans that I used were for a machinist chest. But I moved the long bottom drawers up and omitted the short drawers. I like the finger joints that are used in the construction of this. So here are some pictures of the stages of building it.

some weeks ago, and I so wanted to show you what I was doing but was not quite finished with it yet.... Get well soon. Yesterday I finally finished making the copper pans for the drawers. This way the oil from the brushes won't effect the wood. I guess the last thing I should do is signpaint the front. Let me know what you think. Jeff

Beautiful work! Definitely generates envy...both wanting that kit and wanting the time to build it. What I remember about those hardwood kits are how much they weigh. I also remember how frequently I'd find the need to stand on it to reach an area of a window. I didn't know anyone still uses Swift gold.

Other than the shiney new finish that resembles my 1937 gerstner machinist case that doubles as my signkit,...I still use it even tho its 70+ years old which goes to show you how good craftsmanship can pay off,...mind you I've had to re glue it once, and its been refinished more than once,..but its still out there and like Rixax says you can stand on it to letter a window,....

Beautiful, eye candy craftsmanship impressive inspiring all wrapped up into one likes the the copper drawer sleeves and how stout it is, biggest problem the engineers boxes are.

yes since Arlos and another post in another forum I've bought me a $20 steel box I've sanded ready to paint and make some other adjustments on.

I was going to use aluminum for sleeves wonders if copper is better for brushes.

Craig the advantage to using copper is you can solder the joints so it will keep the liquids in it rather than oozing out.
