the worst vertical banding ever

Can someone look at this and tell me what it is?
I've seen it happen before but never this bad!
I'm using a new roll of avery mpi 1005
Mutoh 1204. I ripped all different ways with flexi 8 and also photoprint10
And it come out the same

Cut a section to the same width as the roll and feed that section into the printer after rotating it 90 degrees. Does the banding still follow the feed direction? If so, it's definitely the printer, otherwise, wow is that a borked roll of media.

Trying it now, but I'm thinking its the printer

HOLY cow. It got worse. I cleaned the encoder strip greased the rails and did a new rip.. I am going to go nuts!

Yep... Didn't think it would but it did, we had Mutoh tech in here for 2 wks trying to fix a similar issue, but our vertical banding was present in Magneta only... weird. The feed rate didnt fix the problem completely though, the tech had to set up some new profiles... but this was after new head, dampers, and maintenance station... Checking your feed rate is at least worth a try, just to see if its off or what it should be

I am willing to bet your encoder strip looks "cloudy' and not clear. I've seen it a million times and a new encoder strip always fixes the issue.

Avery has been having that issue for a month or two with that media, try a different media and the issue should go away if the printer is dialed in correctly. I had the same issue on 2 separate 64s, different media and the issue was gone. Avery is aware of this, we sent them samples...
