Buying the software all over would be more like $3500 (MSRP 4295).
I do understand the frustration while upgrading server and client licenses for Win OS is not cheap either. It is a tool for your business that needs to be upgraded to work with newer equipment/other software. Software goes out of date as technology moves forward.
The upgrade prices really have not changed significantly in years, other than the occasional promotion price. The most expensive level of the software will carry a higher cost to upgrade when the time comes.
Again, I understand the frustration but investment into the business is a necessity that has to be planned for.
