US Tariffs, Sigh!

Genuine question from someone with no skin in the game.
Gino, do you see these tarrifs making America better?
Are you OK with the results that have happened in a short term?
And can America quickly step up to replace all the things that have suddenly became a lot more expensive?
I am Genuine. I have no stake at all. It's just very confusing for an outsider.
Cheers!

Gino, do you see these tarrifs making America better? In the long run.... yes.
Are you OK with the results that have happened in a short term? At the moment it is too soon to determine.
And can America quickly step up to replace all the things that have suddenly became a lot more expensive? Yes, but it will take some time
I am Genuine. I have no stake at all. It's just very confusing for an outsider. Basically, it is by everyone, as you can clearly see with all these silly posts.
Cheers!

The tariffs will effect the low income and small business for now, but buying more American has been a goal for a long time, since I was in grade school, like 63 years ago. However, going back to the beginning of the last century, tariffs have always helped this country. Perhaps, trump will get it all straightened out quickly.

I didn't even need to read your whole essay. When talking to another person, it is not very nice to TELL them how to act, call them names or even put words in their mouth.
Man, I just read through the last 3 pages to get caught up before making a comment, sometimes this place feels like a revolving door with all 8 of the folks participating in this thread having their moment to yell, but only hearing echoes of the last persons comment, and you're going to stand up and say 'i didn't read what you wrote but here's my opinion'.
I understand it's not nice to put words in others mouths and tell them how to act, but you just said you're plugging your ears and then giving unsolicited input. When talking to another person, it's best to make eye contact, listen to what they are saying, consider what you heard, then respond in a noninflammatory way as to both provide insight into your perspective and information that we can, as a whole, add to the conversation.

I did read it all. However, after the first sentence, I kinda had my fill of his drivel and knew I didn't need to read further, but I eventually did, before posting my stuff.

You comment on certain things not being nice is very spot on. Your use of plugging my ears is just another example of putting words in my mouth. Making eye contact on the internet is the reason most things, other than signs DOES NOT belong in a sign forum. We had a NHB section years ago which was to let your ego at the front door before entering, but most people couldn't do that. Tempers flared along with fighting words and all kindsa putrid names and remarks. It really alienated the site into two camps. I don't think it ever totally recovered. I blame freddie for that move. A bunch of us were in a committee and I voted against it. This is the same thing all over again. If the canadians and us can't get along on a frickin' sign forum...... it's no wonder they can't in politics.

What we really need is a new thread for everyone to say they're sorry for any name calling or other rude remarks and to let bygones be just that... bygones and get on with the sign part of the forum. We need understanding and forgiveness. Many harsh and mean things have been said, but we're all adults here and can shake hands and move forward.

According to the kid running the drive-thru window recent events have been perpetrated by the Knights Templar. President Trump, through the defunding of USAID and the import tariffs, put the studio out of business. That explains why there wasn't a sequel.
At least you gave your information from a reliable source.

"Let's just restart our factories" after years of sitting dormant sound very similar to "Just plug it back in and print" referring to an Iris Graphics 3047 that was unplugged and left alone for 30 years....... something about old technology and dried up ink comes to mind...

during the pandemic, we ran into a problem with ventilators. If you recall. Ford shifted gears and began building ventilators.
It always blows my mind when I see comments like this and I realize that we have truly dumbed down america to the point where people don't think we can adjust, change, and think outside the box.

will it take time? yes.
we don't really have many options, we were almost bankrupt. trump is digging us out of a hole. that's why hes attacking the problem from so many different angles.

Yes, Tesla (hah!) and Ford made some ventilators -- please go and look and how long the tooling up took as well as how many they actually made. I am not going to argue - a mothballed factory is just as hard to restart as a wide format printer that has been left idle and dried up. Chip manufacturing is even worse as the technology evolves so quickly that the old factory is basically obsolete. The USA will have to basically start fresh and make new factories - a significant time factor as well as moneys and other resources --- and are we just waiting for a business venture to take charge, or is the Trump administration going to help subsidize the factories? (they could use the existing example of building Tesla a $1,000,000,000 factory and then charging $1 rent as justification to build new semi-conductor plants.... but I believe a lot of USA citizens would object to this.)

we already have chip manufacturers that DON'T need to be reconfigured. that was covered in a previous post.

YES, YOU ARE CORRECT. However those some posts also covered that the volume they can produce is woefully low - remember, similar to your shop trying to supply signs for the entire country?

did you miss the part where there will be companies coming over here and establishing their facilities here so that we don't have to pay tariffs?

I TRULY HOPE YOU ARE CORRECT IN YOUR OPINION! Did you miss the part where Ford and Tesla ventilators had all but a zero impact due to it taking too long to ramp up production? (and ventilators are relatively simple items compared to semi-conductors.)

that's not my opinion. that's what trump has stated as deals he's made with other countries.

as for ventilators, you really do like to grab a bone and not let it go. 1 - we didn't need the ventilators. and 2 - ford posted that they would be able to build 50,000 in a 100 days.

Right back at you!

Again, I TRULY hope the things Trump says are true and accurate -- but then I watch his actions and I really just cannot tell for sure....

and a quick reminder -- YOU brought up the ventilators -- I just figured I would use an example you are familiar with. I apologize if my ASS-U-ME-ption that you were actually familiar with the ventilator production was incorrect.

It would appear that if Ford could produce 50,000 ventilators in 100 days, then you actually proved my point of a company shifting gears and setting up a decent production line in a short time period.
